Are you guys listening? :D Dyers Eve - 1987 / From James' Riff Tapes is so awesome :D It's like totally different flavor of that song. Much more melodic and groovy not that aggressive and fierce and then totally breaks into harvester of sorrow parts (rofl) This is so cool :))

Man, this boxset is cool as hell. Feels weird hearing Seattle '89 with modern bass drum samples though. Also, holy hell Shortest Straw's riff originates from 1986 and has Lars playing a ride on it. That's damn weird.
e: Good god, the TLITD acoustic intro from '86 is just hauntingly beautiful, far more than the final version is. Goddamn.

I kind of wish they'd release Seattle '89 separately on Apple Music and Spotify. I'd like to have more Metallica live albums easily available without having to have the whole deluxe boxset in my library.

The AJFA remaster is slightly clearer but that's about it, all they had to do was turn the bass up.

Been exploring all the riff tapes and live stuff on Spotify today while I wait for my box set to arrive. Loving it as much as the others.
These remaster box sets are the best thing the band has ever done - packaged up eras of history- I love it. Can’t wait for the Black album!

Watched the Justice on Wheels doc last night, really cool, interesting to know that a part of Doris almost landed on Lars at one point, lol.
Currently working my through the rough mixes and demo's, really fucking cool stuff here.

I was at that show. The energy was insane. I ended up in a medical tent after suffering from dehydration and exhaustion after standing in the sun all day and then pushing myself too hard. Good times. Everything that happened after Battery is a bit of a blur.

Picked mine up yesterday too. Have only played "and camcorders for all" so far, was great to see some of that. That intro with Lars telling the cameraman how to operate the camcorder I have seen before many years ago but cannot recall from where exactly. Some great close up footage of late 80s,  , yesterday was a good day
edit - gotta say, some parts included in that had me thinking What for? Perhaps this really is close to everything Lars has stashed away from that period.

Completely addicted to listening to the Work In Progress mixes of the album. The bass, the guitar fills, all the riffs you can hear so clearly without the solos and a lot of the vocals.
This boxset has made me feel like 16 year old me again who was obsessed with the Justice album (and playing it on guitar). Been bored of it and its been one of my least listened to albums by the band over the last 10 years or so...not anymore.

The intro to Eye of the Beholder is so fucking heavy without the fade in. And that guitar fill in the prechorus is so good, never noticed that in the album mix.

Its so awesome to watch 1989 Kirk. Really in tune (and actually in tune too) with his guitar and really confident and on his game.
Listening to some of these riff tapes and demos, track 15 is an interesting one. James sounds bit like Billy Idol haha and it seems Dyers Eve and Harvester were one song at some point. Cool intro on that one too.
Friday night beers and some 89 MEtallica.

Just to let anyone who bought the Justice boxset I have found an issue with my set last night.
You may want to check thru everything to be sure you have everything you paid for.
I'm missing one CD and been given 2 copies of another. I bought from Discrepancy Records and have just informed them - waiting on reply.
I'll post this up on the Met forums too. Its a worry, coz it could have been unknown for months which would likely make it harder to resolve. There's so much content in these sets that I take a heap of time getting thru it all. (I only just finished the Puppets set a week before getting the Justice one)

That’s a shame mate, which CD are you missing and which did you get two of? I don’t listen to the CDs as all the music gets loaded onto Spotify and the audio only interviews don’t interest me that much. I should really double check all my sets! |
