I'll start with Xanthochroid I remember this band beind mentioned in our old forum with their awesome Wintersun cover. I listened to their album and thought they are very good but I'm not that into such black metal. However, their slower acoustic folk songs are awesome. You can listen to below. So this band released a new song lately. And I found out that this is the kind of folk metal I love. I'm impressed. the wintersun cover I talked above:
Last but not least, Opeth's Harvest cover.

Really like Xanthochroid and am excited for the new release. I used to be huge into folk metal but I waned off it a bit.
Finsterforst is a band i still listen to with decent regularity

Back in the day I really used to be into folky stuff, but like Icey it kinda waned a little. This is off one of my favorite albums from that time.
That Opeth cover had some cool bits, but the harsh vocals really turned me off.

while I think that opeth cover is not bad at all, the wintersun covers and two acoustic songs are far better than that cover.
another folk / prog metal I love is Wilderun. They have two albums. I highly recommend you guys their second one "Sleep at the Edge of the Earth". It was one of my favourite albums last year. Sadly there is only one complete song on youtube from that album. But definately give a listen to this album.

Love bandcamp, and the fact that the vast majority of bands do full streams on their pages.
And agree, the Winterusn cover is better. That was how I first stumbled on Xanthrochroid. Their last album, Blessed He With Boils, I liked, but the debut EP I listen to more. Really strong for a self produced first release

I've been listening to Blessed He With Boils a lot lately. Good band.I haven't listened to the Last Relic of Axen before so I'm listening to it right now. It started really beautiful.

It's a better album for me. I haven't listened to the full length in a while but I just find a bit of filler on it. Each track on the EP (even the joke 8-bit cover) feels like it's there for a reason.

Soooo not sure if anyone saw this but Finsterforst did a thing.
From their EP released earlier this year called YØLØ. Seems like good fun.

I had the displeasure of reviewing that Finsterforst EP. It's fucking shite for the most part.
There's a decent album out from Skálmöld this Friday though. Worth checking out.

I'll check the Skálmöld EP. And agree on the Finsterforst. I'm kind of bummed that this band isn't either as good as I once thought, or my love of folk metal is really gone. Their first 2 albums are so good though.

Whaaat, Mach Dich Frei is great, and YØLØ is clearly just for shits and giggles.

Rastlos and Mach Dich Frei are good but the first two were so much better. Obviously YOLO is for shits and giggles, but still.
I think I just go in and out of folk metal. I really liked the epicness of the first two, particularly Zum Tod Hind. Rastlos had that but I didn't find Mach Dich Frei to have it as much.
