I think Tom realized that it isn't Slayer anymore. At the same time, I really hope that is a final tour cause in my mind Slayer died in 2013.

Yeah to me this news is 4 years late. If they did this right after Jeff died, it would've been okay. But then trying to replace him (and Dave) and do Repentless was no bueno.
That being said, I still do expect one more album considering it's apparently half recorded.

I'm a big Slayer fan, but I can't say I'm surprised or saddened. It was inevitable after Jeff died, and I'm actually surprised they kept on going this long. But to be honest, if you would've asked me 10 years ago which one of the Big Four would quit first, I wouldn't have guessed Slayer.

Respect to KK for keeping the band going for one last album after Jeff died.
Greatest thrash band of all time.

This is definitely about Tom. Kerry would like to keep going longer. We'll see if he tries to start another band. I can't think of any band he would join. Obviously the other dudes will move on to other bands. Tom wants to retire.

Never really clicked with Slayer like I have with other thrash bands. I'd go back as far as the second album to find where I stopped caring what they released next. Saw them live, thought it was decent but KK kills it for me

Slayer are a great live band. They didn’t click with me till I saw them live with MegaDeth a while back.
Since then I’ll listen to them a few times a year at most, and will be keen to see them again if they come down to Australia one last time. I love Seasons and South of Heaven and a bunch of others songs from most of their albums but I’d say I’m a casual fan at best. It’s a shame that they’re calling it a day, as they are obviously a big name in metal, and they’ll probably be one of the first of the era to call it quits.

Live Intrusion is one of the most badass live home videos ever released. Had it back on VHS. It's too bad they didn't get that in on Seasons, which I think was their last peak with albums, and having the original line up intact, but, really doesn't take away from the greatness of this live video. Slayer were the epitome of thrash metal aggression over all others. (not good rips of this on youtube) Ah, glad I remember I have the dvd of this somewhere. All the full versions on youtube sound and look horrible.

Lost interest in Slayer back in 1998. Divine Intervention was my meh time. 94? 95? I liked some of recent stuff (GHUA, Christ Illusion, WPB). Their first 5 albums (like Metallica) are great though.

They should have quit when Jeff died, but then I wouldn't have been able to see them for what I guess was the last time. Oh well, better late then never.
WPB was a great album recapturing the Slayer that I grew up with and loved. I'll never forget the day my South of Heaven cassette arrived in the mail from Columbia House. I had no idea who they where and ordered the tape because I had heard that there was nothing more metal then Slayer. Silent Scream is still one of my all time favorite songs since that day 27 years ago.
Maybe KK will do some cool project now, or team up with Newsted and Dave. Who knows.

Eh...why would they quit when Jeff died? They had already carried on after the spider bite. Which is maybe what I'm assuming people are thinking. They didn't know if he was ever going to recover. They were hoping he would, but in that process had moved on.

They were hoping he would, but in that process had moved on. That's a good point. But touring and making Repentless are two different beasts. And Jeff dying along with Dave leaving at the same time kind of put the final nail in the coffin for the band for me. Repentless to me was a bit of a condescending move from Kerry, basically saying "yeah this is just my band, we can do this" even though Tom was even publicly not 100% on board with it.

Didn't they say they were making Repentless because Jeff would've wanted them to make a kickass record and that he had some leftover ideas that got on the record? Nevertheless, I think that's a suitable bookend to this band.

I'd rather have an album with Dave Lombardo on it as a final album.

What I'm fairly sure will happen is Slayer will end, and Kerry will just start a solo project making the same exact type of music with a new bassist and vocalist. Paul will probably stick around on drums and Kerry will do all of the guitar and songwriting, and make another 3 off-brand Slayer albums.

Ideally you'd sign off with something much more substantial than Remehness, but...

I can't say I'm a big fan but I do like quite a few of their songs. Having said that, this is still somehow making me sad. I get used to them a lot being around and lead the metal scene. It will be weird to talk about retirement when it comes to Big 4 bands.

One thing to say about the thrash metal survivors, after it's initial development, is that it has had longevity with number of artists, compared to a lot of other genres of music, not just metal. So yeah, it's of course all going to end at some point, and here is the beginning.
