Let’s move on to Poor Twisted Me vs. Hardwired I think I actually like Poor Twisted Me more than Hardwired! Poor Twisted Me is undeniably one of the most annoyingly dull songs they've ever released. Hardwired wins hands down.

What kinda crack are you all smoking cause I want some.
Hardwired runs circles around Twisted me...it's fucking great! Some of the best stuff they've done in awhile.

I'm fine with HW and PTM. You know what is the worst? Reaction vids.

Yeah reaction vids are the worst.
Anyway, Hardwired is one of the most boring, generic and dull sounding songs they have ever written. The intro is actually annoying. It gets on my nerves. It sounds like stock metal by some studio musicians that gets played in the background of shitty cheap documentaries that used to be made for TV where they were too cheap to license actual music. You know the type where they interview the cousin of the studio engineer where he talks about how X guitarist recorded his solos while generic riffing is played in the background at low volume? That’s Hardwired.
Where’s Poor Twisted Me is super annoying and cringey, but at least it’s original and has some personality. (The only time I have ever said anything remotely positive or iin the defence of PTM).

Poor Twisted Me doesn't sound any less generic than Hardwired to me so I don't know how u see a distinction there. I mean, I guess im just the type of person who thinks that listening to a well structured, catchy, if somewhat conventional song is better than listening to a bunch of pans hit the floor while a cat plays with some guitar strings in the background.

*waits for Jayzon to come in here defending Hardwired* Here I am. Although I really like Poor Twisted Me, it's no match for Hardwired. I think that now that it's been well over a year since the album came out, I can safely say that Hardwired is my favorite Metallica song of all time. And no, I'm not trolling or trying to be edgy or shit like that. I really, really like that song that much.

Poor Twisted Me is miles better. It even has a solo that doesn't TILT half way through

Hardwired is the ultimate "that'll do" song. "Hey we need an opener, James play the first riff that comes to your mind - Ok that'll do", "Ok now, how should we open this song? Oh I know, I'll spam the shit out of snare while you chug the E string - that'll do". "Ok we need the lyrics - what's rhymes with self-destruct? 'Fuck' and 'luck'. Great! That'll do", "hey James you know that song that we have on our first album...militia something...yeah it will be our breakdown riff - that'll do. "Hey Kirk play anything for 15 seconds - great that'll do".
Then go to the interviewers and say that It only took you 2 days to write a song.

They did seem quite proud that the opener was a song they banged out off the cuff. You had to be wary of that from a band that meticulously dissects their released shit bar to bar.

Poor Twisted Me sounds like James is dealing with a bout of constipation...terrible stuff.

I like both, but I'd take HW over PTM any day. That "Once upon a planet burning" part just gives me such a rush every time.

I'm not a fan of Poor Twisted Me's vocals. Hardwired is a solid album opener. Yeah, it's not the greatest or most original, but it serves its purpose. What does PTM serve? A bunch of Poort Twisted MeYeeeaaaAAAHHH YEEEAAAHHH YEAH! YEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHYEEEAAAHHyyeeeaaahhhs! With that weird vocal filter. Hetfield pushed that yeah thing a bit too far with those two albums.

I gotta say it has grown on me the last year, it's not my favorite or anything but at least it's not as horrible as Atlas

Hardwired to me is just a fantastic "punch in the face" kinda song. Not a technical masterpiece, granted, but perfect in what it does. Short, fast, aggressive, straightforward. I adore it.

There are some days where I think Hardwired perfectly encapsulates the album as a concise opener, and other days I wish they kept LOS as the opener.

Yikes, LOS would have been a bad opener. That said, I put it in the album in place of Manunkind. It just needed some energy there.
It's been a good while since I've listened to HTSD actually. I think stopped after a few months.

Greg more or less revealed in an interview last year that that was the original plan, though he followed up by saying he never thought it quite fit on the album at all.
I still have a soft spot for that song because that main riff is just too damn cool.

What do you guys think is the best solo on HWTSD? I don't know if that Halo solo can be topped!
