Ktulu shouldn't be in this thread.
I figured Dirty Window and Poor Twisted Me would get mentions but I really like both of these songs.
Window was song we'd jam on years ago and I still remember how much fun that was. The ST Anger rehearsal version is excellent.
Poor Twisted Me has a rawness to it thats always appealed to me. Again, great fun to play.

I'll just put your preferred choice between these two songs in the Unique and Confusing Pile.
Ktulu is far from boring. And somehow Rob has given it new life on the stage. Also the song is one of the S&M highlights

Slither, no doubt. It's the only Metallica song that actively pisses me off when I hear it. I just legit dislike it that much, and I don't even know why. I mean it's a bad song and all, I just don't understand why I feel so strongly about it.
e: Purify's up there too, tbh. As well as a fair amount of St. Anger.

I actually hate how Rob plays Ktulu. Anesthesia too. He doesn't have the Cliff touch for it. His takes on Anaethesia could have been better if he felt he could, or had the confidence, to express himself within the scope of that "song" rather than feel obligated to try and replicate what Cliff recorded. The "song" was never meant to be one played the same forever and a day and Rob easily has the chops to work his own magic with the idea of what Cliff did. He probably thinks the fans just want a copy, and many probably do, but there's lots of us that could appreciate a 'Rob take' each time. |

He just plays a lot of it sloppy. Rushed. Getting it over with. I actually take back Ktulu, I think I saw one performance of his on that I didn't like, but I just watched some others and he did fine.

One thing's for sure, the average Rob take on Ktulu is immeasurably better than what Jason ever did. And I'm not saying that to be a dick to Jason, it's purely to give credit where it's due: Rob is one hell of a bassist.
