Pitpass is legit, been a forumer there since '03/'04. Well connected to Christian Sylt and even Paul Stoddard used to write for them. A1 GP used them to help advertising the project when it begun. Unfortunately (or not) FOM sees them as hostile and they don't get credentials for pressers and paddock anymore. nice. i'll give them a look more in the future. i hadn't heard of pitpass until today so i was a little sceptical. they sound like an interesting group - any connection to paul stoddard usually is - and christian sylt connection is reassuring.
how is the forum? if i'm to be inside for much of the foreseeable future, i might frequent it.

Ah, I used the wrong tense, they shut it down a few years ago in favour of article comments :yesyes: It was a brilliant community, though, a few terrific technically minded people too. They ran a charity auction in support of the 2004 tsunami, grabbed meself one of the modest items, an Arrows car launch press pack.

ah, no worries man! closing down a good forum and community and replacing it with a comments based system? that sounds familiar...
that sounds lovely though. had i found out about it when i found out about metbb, i'd probably have spent as much time there too that's a fun item to win, what was in it?
there used to be a formula one/motorsport memorabilia shop in aberdeen when i was a child. obviously not having the money to buy the high class artefacts, once when i was 7, i recall buying a coaster with a picture of jos verstappen's arrows on it and photographs of raikkonen and irvine from the practice session of the 2001 australian grand prix. i was mad proud of owning those that i framed them

I also was gifted a miniature Western Models McLaren MP4/2 for winning a thread where you had to guess how many points that year's WDC would have in the old 10-6-4.. points system :p

today's race f1 '13 was around the '80s brands hatch, once again as nico rosberg. race started wet, i started from pole, i was awa. up the road, happy days, saved a lot of fuel (i just had a hunch...). then charles pic fucked it and there was a safety car. track was drying but i wasn't confident in my aggressive set-up, it was a dry set-up but worked ace on inters but that set-up plus a damp track i felt would be too risky, and burned up my tyres losing a few places. lap 25 of 75, i find myself in 4th behind hamilton (massa and perez leading). despite a double stack pit-stop, we cycle out of the stops 1st and 2nd and now hamilton is awa up the road while i fend off perez. the next 20 laps are quiet, hamilton has a 15 second lead before he spins, it falls to 3 seconds, then we stop for the last time on lap 52. 5 second gap once we both stop and the race goes mad from there. lapping cars here is a bastard (even for the AI) because it is so narrow and fast, cars will just veer into your a path which held up hamilton which in turn held me up. your overtaking opportunities were really through paddock hill bend into druids and into hawthorns, the rest is just a case of hanging on. the lead changed 8 times between lap 60 and 72 before i finally took the lead for the last time on lap 74 - almost binned it going round stirlings on the last lap but i had enough KERS left to neutralise any look hamilton may have had.
some bahrain 2014 vibes to this one and quarantine is definitely not rotting my brain.

that was extremely sweet of him! it sounds like a fun set, if you ever get a mac let us know what else arrows wanted you to know!
the competitions sound fun, pitpass sounds like a grand website! those kinds of contests are good because i like point system chat and comparing things based on past or alternative points systems.
10-8-6... is my favourite system but i have a soft spot for 10-6-4 etc

I did a 50% race at Russia, won easily. The later Codies game are fun but I swear it's so frustrating how uneven the AI (not in-race driving, they're actually pretty racey!) is. You'll win easily at power circuits and then be so off the pace at circuits with lots of corners you'll inevitably end up having to adjust difficulty from track to track. They must be modelled to have perfect traction, which would also explain how overpowered they are in the wet.
7 seasons of career mode and I only won the title twice because it's always fucking raining or changeable conditions, and they'll just drive on rails while you tiptoe around.

Why do you like the 10-8 point system? :o No proper reward for winning.

i found that playing f1 '18. red bull ring and paul ricard were cakewalks while i can't recall ever finishing in the top 5 at albert park or cota. the rain conditions were a pisstake (i won my first race in the rain but i had a 15 cars within 10 seconds behind me...) - with a controller you can't put any power down while the AI is crusing away. it's maddening.
Why do you like the 10-8 point system? :o No proper reward for winning. it kept brother kimi in the running in '03 and '05
it didn't put a priority on winning, no, but it did reward consistent top 3 finishes. a driver would still need to win races to win a championship (unless the drivers and cars were so evenly matched and there were great variances in results of drivers) but also consistently finish well and stay in the race. i think it also reduced complacency in a potentially dominant driver and team to keep developing as much as possible and without taking any weekends off (alonso in 2005, kimi in 2007, brawn vs red bull in in 2009 vs lewis at the end of '15, '17, '18 and '19).

contestants are: helio castroneves, johnny herbert, gil de ferran, oriol servia, dario franchitti, david brabham, juan pablo montoya, jan magnussen, adrian fernandez, max papis, tony kanaan, bryan herta, paul tracy and...emerson fittipaldi.
CART never will never die, lads. i hope that they hold the race on an oval or in some random car park in denver or miami to really capture the 1990s CART-vibe.

indycar were running a poll for where they will start their e-racing series. the final is between the god-tier michigan speedway and watkins glen, the latter will surely run away with it
democracy is a farce lads. certainly in motorsport. it's why every online lobby is filled with gt3 races at spa - the same thing all time is dull. liking tracks because you've been told they're good and the drivers like to race them is fine but mind the last decent f1 race at spa was in 2009 and that the drivers loved racing at the new delhi track (it is fun as hell on the games to be fair, the racing sucks though).
gies mad slip streams and mad lads going 8 wide insteaddddddd

One more race done in F1 2019, Interlagos. Won the race, and the title from Crashtappen. After an entire career mode where Red Bull was pretty much the only team able to ALWAYS run a soft-medium one stint, even without upgrades, Max inexplicably goes for soft-hards and finishes 8. At least with the title won, I can say piss off to Abu Dhabi and simulate the race

everybody will reminisce (as they should, imo) for the bernie days if jp morgan get the series. my god.

daft strategy by red bull there. i hate it when you run an excellent season and race strategy and end up winning the title because AI does something daft or is unable to lap a backmarker
what were you driving?
(i actually quite like racing at abu dhabi it's shite as a last race and interlagos should always be last but i have fun there)
Hope so, love the Glen Will be McLaughlin's new Indy debut date i love the glen for sportscars and touring cars and nascar but when indycar went between 16 and 18 it wasn't too great. plus, the indycars at michigan on iracing are always entertaining!
i have no idea how he is as a gamer but i quite fancy mclaughlin to do well if it's at the glen. i have a feeling.

I was at Ferrari (when fully upgraded it's still the third worst chassis, heavy as a boat but the top in aerodynamics improvement). Picked them up below Mclaren and Renault in the performance table after a regulation change. I actually end up not minding racing there, but I always have a bit of dread beforehand because it's a very long lap and a stupid Tilke third sector, so yeah...I have to take a deep breath and go through with, the instinct is always "nope"...same for Baku.

can anyone mind that there was to be a chinese team join the grid a couple of years back?
it came to me the other day and i looked it up and yes, i remembered correct. the article above seems to suggest that red bull employees were contacted, as were staff from manor following their closure.
maybe ma qinhua would finally have gotten that race seat!

how is the rate of development viz. f1 2018? i remember the gimmick being people picking a williams at the start of season one and by monza you could qualify a second ahead of any other car. is it more graded or is it still possible to have that insane rate of development?
(i liked to the 2009 force india route and have a car that you will definitely race well at 2-3 tracks and then hope for the best )
i quite like baku's twiddly bit because it is so ridiculous. the third sector at abu dhabi is ghastly though, you're right. i love the first sector a lot but the end of the lap is dire. what's your favourite track on the recent games? i have always enjoyed racing at sepang but that isn't an option anymore, montreal and interlagos might be my favourites.

The AI teams develop faster now, so it's not as easy in that regard, but if you pick a best of the rest team you're going to challenge for the title in season 1 already. So, it's only a little better, I guess. Apart from Monaco, Suzuka (eventhough I suck) and Interlagos are the only tracks in the games where I feel that "on edge" speed sensation. Montreal is a favourite, and the racing at Nürburgring and Paul Ricard is usually fun. Sepang was a nightmare for me, those couple of corners with a weird angle into the breaking zone (just before the last backstraight) were always a challenge. So in a selfish way, because I didn't run well there, good riddance :p

So in a selfish way, because I didn't run well there, good riddance :p that seems a bit better. it is more reasonable to have mclaren or renault developing a title winning car (based on the start of the 2019 season) than to have a williams lead from the back.
i felt that too. suzuka was another favourite of mine, i think also because it is so narrow (and there are gravel traps!!!!) there is less chance for error, so you've got to stick corners and/or hang on the edge. i hate what they did to 130R. i know they wanted to avoid any more allan mcnish or daijiro kato crashes but it's taken the teeth out of the corner - same with blanchimont at spa. nurburgring was my favourite circuit when it was on the calendar. i think it's a perfect track for formula 1 cars with the fast sections *and* the technical sections, narrow but with overtaking spots, elevation changes etc i really think the calendar is hurting for its absence. can't mind a bad race the past 6-7 times they were there.
paul ricard, i had an epic race there on f1 2018 during a season mode: i was kimi ( ) and it was a 50% distance. the top six were obviously ferrari, mercedes and red bull cars and we ran within about 5 seconds of each other all race. my personal highlight was coming from 4th after the chicane on the back straight, drafting (using the american term because it was more like a superspeedway manoeuvre than anything) bottas, ricciardo and vettel to go 3-wide into that never ending corner and emerging in the lead. then i lost the lead at the start off the next lap . rain started and it went a bit mad, i got back into the lead with 4-5 laps left and help off verstappen to win. the next race in austria was wild (hamilton had one of his classic breakdown races ala canada 2011) but that's for another time. nico hulkenberg actually got a win in the dry that season (plus, being season mode there was no development or anything either). thinking about it, f1 2018 might've been my favourite game since f1 '97 in terms of eventful races like that.
i know exactly the section you are talking about at sepang! i hate it! raced there the other day in a caterham and kept flying off there. other than that though, i think the track is a delight to race at. the first sector especially, i don't know how but i always blitz it. even on a game fairly strict on aero and handling like grand prix challenge, i could get a fastest sector time in a minardi. the second sector was just a joy, that sweeping downhill into those fast but technical corners at the top of the lap. so fun!

I obviously meant Hockhenheim as you noticed certainly, but yeah I hear you on the Nürburgring. The infield section at Indianapolis is another that looks a bit Mickey Mouse but but it was fun on the Grand Prix 4 game, it had more than one line and it was really cool for overtakes. Speaking of 'murika, I really wanted to like COTA but the corner complexes all seem to have an extra corner, doesn't flow as well as it could. (Obviously they added those so as to say the circuit is not an 100% copy of others).

i'm with you entirely regarding cota. it wants to be a classic but it tries too hard and gets too complicated. it's always the last corner in each complex that feels unnecessary too, perhaps appropriately. i thought the new delhi track was a far more enjoyable version of cota with the right amount of corners.
cota is frustrating because other than when kimi won and the first race, there hasn't been an interesting formula one race there (i guess maybe 2015 in the rain but the post-race was more interesting) yet the 6 hour world endurace championship races have all been ace. porsche vs toyota in 2017 (i think) was one of the battles of the decade and the race a month back was great, esp in gt am and lmp2, the latter having paul di resta doing the race of a lifetime.
what's yr fave yankee doodle circuit? used in f1 or otherwise?

cota is frustrating because other than when kimi won and the first race, there hasn't been an interesting formula one race there (i guess maybe 2015 in the rain but the post-race was more interesting) yet the 6 hour world endurace championship races have all been ace. porsche vs toyota in 2017 (i think) was one of the battles of the decade and the race a month back was great, esp in gt am and lmp2, the latter having paul di resta doing the race of a lifetime.
what's yr fave yankee doodle circuit? used in f1 or otherwise?
I didn't play any F1 game between GP4 and F1 2017, no idea how the Nürburgring is in those. I also stopped watching F1 for a couple years (only tuned in again middle season when Rosberg won the title) so I have no idea how India and South Korea were like. I pick Laguna Seca but for completely subjective reasons, the blue kerbs and the arid surroundings make me think it could be in Southern Europe, no idea how interesting car racing is there (small lap, narrow track).

I'd like to see an F1 car at full throttle through the bumps of Sebring, just to hear them whine afterwards :p

those years were usually not very exciting (beyond 2012 which was one of the best ever tbh). korea and india were extremely dull: vettel won every indian grand prix (and led something like 150 of the 180 laps ever run there) and won the korean grand prix 2011-13 (only losing the 2010 race due to engine failure a few laps from the end, again leading something like 180 out of 220 or so laps ever raced there).
yeongam in korea was hyper tilke-ism: sector one was three long straights with a hairpin and 90 degree corner to split them, sector two was amorphis mid-high speed wavy corners; maggots and becketts at silverstone extended over a whole sector, and sector three is a faux "street circuit" twiddly area. exciting.
buddh international circuit in india was grand. the racing was dull but it was an exciting track on the games and the kind of track i think would be phenomenal for multi-class sportscar racing (like shanghai, tilke-fied fuji and cota). immediate steep elevation change up a hill into a very very very long straight, a technical but fun sector leads into a long long long banked corner, then the obligatory tilke twiddly final sector.

laguna seca is cool. it had a rep for having cool looking but deathly dull indycar/cart races, unless alex zanardi was needing a result, but last year's race outside the top 2/3 had loads of overtaking and was very competitive.
it's much more of a bike circuit (that motogp and world superbike stopped going there was a travesty). stoner vs rossi in 2008 was one of the races of the decade. as for car racing, it's really only alms now imsa that go there. it's made for some fine races, jorg bergmeister and jan magnussen going to the wire in gt2s was pretty iconic:
still much more of a bike circuit however
I'd like to see an F1 car at full throttle through the bumps of Sebring, just to hear them whine afterwards :p sebring is class and i would love to see that. indycar always test there in spring but are unwilling to race, probably for all of the suspensions that'd explode

sounds like the 2021 regs are being moved to 2023 now, 18" inch tyres are postponed until...? and engine development for whenever these new regs are being planned for is suspended for the year.
but at force india racing point jordan grand prix is confirmed to rebrand as aston martin next season! (but they had better keep the pink cars)
i'm starting an f1 '13 full season but i'm undecided whether to go lotus or mercedes. i'll let you know.
oh and the british grand prix is looking increasingly like it will be off, eeech.
