Yeah but, like, Verstappen or something !!11!! there's an onboard video of max doing a lap in what i think is a 2012 red bull:
unsure if by not having fencing by that last corner (not even a few metres back from the wall) the FIA are hoping to avoid a potential dan wheldon/mikhail aleshin/robert wickens car/person being torn up by the fence in an airborne collision) or if it was an oversight/them being daft. the plus is that there is nothing there to hit if a car goes flying, so that's something!

There wasn't anything wrong with Zandvoort, and they risked butchering it to accommodate a race that will make Hungaroring seem like the mother of all overtake fests :/
In other news, crowdless race at moneyed autocratic state aka Ecclestone wet dream.

i agree that the old zandvoort was class. i would like to have seen them run assen instead tbh (champ car had a decent race there and i seem to mind that women's series was good there too) but since zandvoort became something of a meme the other year, they couldn't helpd themselves.
hahaha it's such a disaster re bahrain. thing is, weren't they usually only attracting a handful of people anyway to races there, them saying that it is "behind closed doors" only serves to illuminate that fact!

the race this weekend is aff so i am free to go drinking on saturday evening now
a mclaren team member tested positive for corona with lime and, to speculate, their withdrawal is what triggered the cancellation (in line with brawn's "if a team gets banned from a state, none of us will race" line)

Still not confirmed.
Though there has been a sighting of 2 drivers boarding flights out of Melbourne apparently (not McLaren)

the long beach grand prix has been cancelled:
also i see that the new first four races of the motogp season are: spain, france, italy, catalunya (spain). given that the 24hr le mans bike race is off and that italy has gone home and spain isn't far behind...iiiiiii don't think we're saying much racing this springtime

i have to think, how much is victoria begging that they hold a race? they seem to lose their ass on the event when it runs, i cannot imagine how it'd be for them if it was cancelled.

Yep just logged back in to update. Would have thought they would at least run it with no fan attendance. Someone thought it was better to leave them all gathered around together behind locked gates What a mess

The question of $$$$ vs Health has been hanging around in the lead up to this weekend already. Massive losses with a cancellation.
Not sure about V8s yet, hoping for an update soon.
I'm so disappointed.... this weekend had a cracker schedule with TCR and S5000 races too.

Someone thought it was better to leave them all gathered around together behind locked gates What a mess i did think that maybe they'd have an exhibition race. for what it's worth, three teams were up to practice/participate, so there could've been something, maybe the FIA just made the call to cancel everything to keep everyone on the same page which led to supercars, tcr, s5000, porsche cup stopping as well.
i mind we said before but that was a cracking line up for the weekend! jack aitken (williams reserve/test driver) and giancarlo fisichella racing in s5000 was going to be mega for the series, tcr looking boss, porsche cup is always good...argh.
as it is, i don't know if the bahrain round for f1 or launceston supercars round will go (let alone further races), so we'll see. indycar is starting this weekend but errr with long beach cancelled and austin under state of emergency and that big event in may with 400,000 people attending i might not hold my breath for them

so seemingly the race/a race was set to be on until a phone call from stuttgart to toto wolff maybe advised that he reconsider his support for the race: the-race.com/formula-1/australian-gp-cancellation-stand-off-the-full-inside-story/of course by this time vettel and raikkonen were already on their way back to switzerland but mercedes' switching from wanting to go ahead with a race to wanting to request to cancel it seems to have been the final event that let to cancellation.

some lad just streamed the 2005 french grand prix and i'm still struck by how awesome, literally, raikkonen and alonso were back then. alonso was in a different class all day and kimi coming from 13th to finish 11 seconds off alonso both well over a minute ahead of michael schumacher. abody else lapped (i suspect montoya might've been lright had his engine not imploded).
i wish the mercedes engine was less fragile in '05 because the three way fight there would've been between the mclarens and alonso would've been mega.

It was quite off-putting at the time, those regs, while ultimately it was Mercedes fault having a BBQ for an engine, but you couldn't help but feel Kimi was absolutely robbed of the title. That mid-season mass damper ban of Renault was also a farce, but Alonso for all his talents could have had no title.

Drive to Survive, Hockhenheim episode, the camera facing the driver was brilliant. Bottas's eyes while he spun off, t'rrific shot.

the isle of man tt and spa 6 hours race have been cancelled. circuit of the americas is seemingly laying a lot of staff off too.
if the fucking tt, set around an entire island, scheduled for june is cancelled, i won't hold my breath re spain and the netherlands.
every day there is a hopeful press release from IMS that we'll have an indy 500 in may but somehow, if the usa is to be hit as hard as they think, i think the big event with 300,000 people squeezed into a small town next to a large city might be moved to later in the year.
It was quite off-putting at the time, those regs, while ultimately it was Mercedes fault having a BBQ for an engine, but you couldn't help but feel Kimi was absolutely robbed of the title. That mid-season mass damper ban of Renault was also a farce, but Alonso for all his talents could have had no title. i was 11 throughout that season, 2000 and 2003 notwithstanding, seeing a properly competitive year means i'll always look fondly on that time. kimi was utterly incredible all year and alonso similarly so. the overall package of 2005 was odd, is wish that they would return to such a radical race format - same tyres all race, qualify on race fuel, combined-time qualifying (the 2003-04 strict one-lap qualifying was the #goat). basically the opposite of right now.
per the meme, feel like pure shit just want her back:
100% agree on the mass damper ban in '06 too. like the tyre debacle in '03, it felt like todt called in a favour from mosley. '05 was a coin flip between kimi and alonso but there is no way he should've lost in '06 and he'd have had three in a row in '07 if he hadn't shithoused in qualifying at hungary (or crash in fuji and go missing in canada). never mind how close he was in a trash ferrari in '10 and '11!
Drive to Survive, Hockhenheim episode, the camera facing the driver was brilliant. Bottas's eyes while he spun off, t'rrific shot.
i haven't seen the first series but i mean to. i'm glad that the hockenheim race has an episode, that was quite the weekend!

I was at the GP on Thursday and glad I go to see a few cars go around the track. Was devastated when the whole thing got cancelled. I had a 4 day pass.
Was the right call, but the way it was handled was terrible, should be have been cancelled weeks earlier.

re that e-race series tho i hope that either old montoya and mel c from the spice girls touring car brother (paul o'neill) win this event using only a knackered ps1 controller with a triangle button that sticks. show these young ones what real racing games were like in Our Day.

played some f1 2013 today. did a full length race as nico rosberg. i qualified disasterously in rain (p 13). race started dry and i work through the field well with mark webber (started p 12) and we set fastest lap after fastest lap. i was 4th by the end of the first stint (lap 14/60) where i moved onto the prime tyre and my race fell off a cliff there. hamilton, my team mate, ran two option stints and built a good lead by the halfway point. i had fallen to 11th by this point, unable to get the tyres heated up. hamilton then had a puncture and retired. i then got a puncture. we were saved by the rain and i got into a 6-way fight with grosjean, maldonado, di resta, button and webber but my tyres fell off a cliff AGAIN. hulkenberg, in the sauber, led for a while before slipping down and losing 3rd place on the final lap to massa, alonso won by 40 seconds.
hulkenberg blowing a sure fire result + mercs having tyre dramas in 2013 leading to hamilton having a race ending puncture and rosberg slipping down into midfiled obscurity...life replicating art.
(max chilton also lapped jules bianchi so it wasn't entirely realisitic mind)

Man I've played F12017, '18 and '19 for hundreds and hundreds of hours and I never attempted a 100% race.
Managing tyres, fuel and ERS for that long... nope the fuck up, not when currently every race is a fucking one-stop.

ahhhhhh i usually only play 50-100%. the formula since codemasters took over the series has been such that, for me, i can only stay interested in the race if it's over an extended length. particularly in the pre-17 regs when tyre strategy was the variable. i quite like doing the endurance races on gran turismo and project cars or longish nascar races - fills a couple of hours and gives me time to listen to a podcast without distraction.
post '17 the only game i've played is the 2018 game, which i thought was a lot of fun. i didn't mind managing fuel and ers but it was always frustrating when you'd find yourself just driving around as opposed to racing.
f1 97 was the game. i would do 20 lap championships forever as hakkinen or alesi and it was always exciting and...fun (from formula one, believe it or not).
Apparently the F1 organised event was a joke. what happened? i had it on briefly while i was finishing the race i was playing but i paid little attention. i know that johnny herbert was there and i was rooting for him to crush those kids.

unsure how reliable this site is but if the interview is legit, it sounds like even carlin might be unable to survive a prolonged lockdown and economic crisis. carlin have been the big independent junior and sportscar racing team in britain since as long as i can remember and they have fingers in numerous pies. if they are struggling, i worry about a lot of teams in a lot of formula (and in formula one's case, williams has to be marginal atm).

Pitpass is legit, been a forumer there since '03/'04. Well connected to Christian Sylt and even Paul Stoddard used to write for them. A1 GP used them to help advertising the project when it begun. Unfortunately (or not) FOM sees them as hostile and they don't get credentials for pressers and paddock anymore.
