I never liked it when I was younger. I couldn't understand why it was ALWAYS fucking #1 on any Metallica list of rated songs.
It's grown on me somewhat over time though....it's a great live song I guess. Full of energy!

Pretty good. Nice groove to the main riff, verse moves along nicely and the chorus is memorable. Never liked the outro that much though.

When it came out in 91, I remember thinking, after being someone that listened to anything, that this is clearly the best kind of music there is. I've been addicted to crunchy guitars and heavy drums ever since.

Very good song, just heard it too many times.
If I'd have to recommend some songs from Metallica to people who have never heard of them this would definitely be one of them.

I remember 3 radio stations playing it the day it was released almost one after the other. I was massively disappointed. This was not what I was expecting or had been waiting for.

So I have a kid who is five, who is lucky to have a cool dad like me, and of course he listens to and loves all kinds of awesome rock\punk\metal music.
About 3 weeks ago, he asked to listen to the Black Album on our bus ride. He never heard it before, just saw it in the collection. No knowledge of its history or anything like that. Pure curiosity and innocence.
Sandman started up and his eyes lit up. He was hooked. It was awesome to see his reaction and his immediate embrace of Sandman and the rest of TBA songs.
There is definitely something about Sandman and that album that instantly digs its hooks inside your head and commands you to listen and love it. Its like magic really.

yeah Sandman seems to be the only Metallica track that my boy takes a shine to. He said he listened to it the other night because it helps him fall asleep (?) because thats what the song is about. Made me smirk.

Awesome song, a bit overplayed but awesome nonetheless.

The build-up in the beginning is absolute greatness.

The definitive version:
Man, I love Moscow 1991 so much. It's hard to believe just how good the band sounded at this show.

I like the way they used to join up the end of NEM with Sandman live.

Not that hard to find. That youtuber has been uploading Metallica shows for years, let it be proshot or bootleg.

Well shit. For some reason I thought the full version of this concert didn't exist. I remember searching for it awhile back and couldn't find it.

The problem is the full show isn't mixed by Randy Staub like Sandman, Creep, Harvester, Sad and Fade were.
Hoping for a fully mixed and mastered DVD and/or vinyl of this show in the Black Album Deluxe Remaster set that hopefully isn't too far away.

Sad but True's my favorite from the Moscow show. The vocals sound nearly identical with the studio take in a couple of spots, it's absurd.

For me those early Black Album Tour shows were when they peaked as far as live performances go. The whole band sounded so massive there and everyone was pretty much spot on.

I remember 3 radio stations playing it the day it was released almost one after the other. I was massively disappointed. This was not what I was expecting or had been waiting for. How do you feel about it nowadays? Its a funny one because I know its not a bad song and no doubt its a fun one to play on guitar. I think I have said it before, the Black album has kinda been spoiled (for me) due to the overplaying of this song and the other singles (which is like half the album) When I hear Sandman I connect it with the end of a Metallica concert. The production is almost what saves it for me and I really like the solo but I can't recall ever thinking I need to go grab that album off the shelf so I can hear Sandman.

When I first heard it, it was the heaviest song ever for me. Now I kinda don't like it. I mean it's good but I'd much rather listen to pretty much everything else they've done.
It doesn't work with clean vocals. So I don't like the live versions of it post 1996.

This guy just put this up. He took the CD audio and synced it up with the existing footage which he cleaned up as well.
