Its being reported that he was found this morning and it was suicide by hanging. I'm not an LP fan by any stretch, but this is a terrible loss. No one deserves to feel like suicide is ever an option. RIP Chester.

So sad. Was never a big fan, but Hybrid Theory was a go to jamming album for me a long time ago, those songs are really fun to play.
Saw LP at Summer Sanitarium back in 2003, they kicked ass live.
Such a waste of a life.

I've never been big fan of Linkin Park apart from the first two records but this is quite a shock for me. Fuck, Chester was way too young to die! RIP.

Wonder why? New album sucked so much? Wow, really? If anything it could have something to do with the backlash they've been getting from their fans after the release of their newest album.

Uh, probably has more to do with deeper life long issues. He was also a friend of Chris Cornell. That can't have helped. The thing that pisses me off about shit like this, he left 6 kids behind. Now, let's see what drugs this guy was pickling himself in...

He was one of Chris Cornell’s best friends and today is Chris Cornell’s birthday. It's such a sad time.

Linkin Park's one of those bands that I have never really listened to - I don't think I've ever listened to a whole album start to finish - but if I went to their concert, I'd probably know all the songs. They were one of the most ubiquitous bands of the 21st century. Far too early for Chester, and such a sad story, with him being close to Cornell and whatnot. Rest in peace.

Thank God that note wasn't written in the style of his signature.

Sad news. Hybrid Theory was a big album for me in the early 2000's when I was a kid and Chester was a massive part of that sound. I know the band has changed their style since then, but they still had some great songs on their more recent albums.
Saw Linkin Park live in 2009, they were great.

Wonder why? New album sucked so much? Yeah, new album sucked but it wasn't THAT bad. Seriously, he was really close with Chris Cornell and today is Chris's 53 birthday. So probably missed his friend ... He was also addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Hybrid Theory helped get me into metal, this is sad.
Lots of fond memories playing the Jet Moto games with my brother while listening to that album.
RIP.

Probably still struggling with Chris's passing. But 6 kids man......c'mon. Even in that letter some of his first thoughts are about the family left behind

Very sad news. Never knew he had drug problems, or about the abuse he suffered, or that he had six kids. It's especially bad for them to lose their father.
I had a ticket to see them for the first time two weeks ago, but they cancelled as Manchester Arena still wasn't ready after the bombing. Figured I'd see them next time, but I guess it wasn't to be. I still remember the day I got Hybrid Theory, listening to it on repeat whilst playing the original Grand Theft Auto on PS1. Good memories. That album and Minutes to Midnight get the odd play from me every now and then, as well as a handful of tracks from the other albums.
RIP Chester.

If he didn't have kids, he'd get a bit more of my sympathy. But since he had, what a selfish asshole. Like really. Poor him and all his millions of dollars. I'd trade my bullshit in life for his any day.

But all these rich rock stars who are like poor me poor and then kill themselves and abandon their kids... Buy a fucking ranch in the middle of nowhere and step out of the spot light FFS while you get help.

I'd trade my bullshit in life for his any day. Depression, PTSD, etc.....i've heard having these type of diseases described as like being in a burning house. Living with depression, you can't just sit in your house and enjoy it like other people, you have to constantly move from room to room to escape the ever approaching flames. Medication and therapy can subdue the flames so the person can go on to live a semi-normal life but the embers are always there ready to flare into a roaring fire again should the person stop being medicated/treated. Being in the depths of depression is like being in the burning house surrounded by flames. You feel like you have nowhere to turn, your choking on smoke, you aren't thinking clearly (wife, kids, etc.) and you jump out a third story window just to escape. This is why people who are depressed commit suicide.

Being in the depths of depression is like being in the burning house surrounded by flames. You feel like you have nowhere to turn, your choking on smoke, you aren't thinking clearly (wife, kids, etc.) and you jump out a third story window just to escape. This is why people who are depressed commit suicide. This is pretty accurate. The thing with depression is that it messes with your self esteem and the way you think the people around you perceive you to the point where you truly believe the world is better off without you. Often they ARE thinking about the people they're leaving behind, but with that kind of mindset. That's a big reason depressed people commit suicide. Of course, no one but Chester knows exactly what was going through his head, but that gives you an idea of what could have happened. Not to mention how close Chester and Chris Cornell were and the fact that yesterday would've been his birthday. I think another part of the problem is how stigmatized mental illness is, especially depression, and particularly in men (though its always a serious problem regardless of gender). Its a statistic fact that men take their lives more often than women, and my theory is that its caused by this idea society has that men need to be strong all the time and to show negative emotion is a sign of weakness, which is just cause for ridicule. And so many will keep their thoughts to themselves until its too late rather than seeking the help they need. Just my $.02

Well, not all people experience depression in that way. But yeah, it sounds like that guy's foundation was extremely weak. He had apparently gotten sober as well. He no longer had his mask to hide behind. Probably felt the guilt/shame of really wanting to use again and that he was never going to escape it. Could have been a similar issue with Cornell.
"My whole life, I've just felt a little off," Bennington said in conversation with Music Choice earlier this year. "I find myself getting into these patterns of behavior or thought – especially when I'm stuck up here [in my head]; I like to say that 'this is like a bad neighborhood, and I should not go walking alone.'"

Its the year 2017. Suicide and suicide amongst "stars" is not a taboo thing or hidden in the shadows. There is so much support from everyone who loves you and is in your life. I'm not trying to come of as insensitive, believe me, I feel for the guy and I do understand completely what depression and family suicide is all about...believe me on that.
There is support and strength from others out there for you. So much. I pray that none of you or anyone every feel like there is no other solution. There are many solutions. For your kids sake or your family's sake. Don't take away your gift of life, you only get one.
Whatever has happened to you in the past can be overcome and you don't have to face it alone.there is always a better option then suicide. I am just angry for the kids in all this. They're the ones who lose out ultimately.

Suicide is the number one cause of death in Australia for males aged 15-44.
While feminists go on about how mansplaining and fake wage gaps are oppressing them, men are killing themselves in huge numbers and most people don't give a shit. Generally speaking, men are still seen as expendable in society. "Weak" men especially.
There needs to be some pretty big changes around how mental health issues are viewed, and how a man's worth is defined in society before we start to see numbers drop.
Re: Chester. I'm not a fan of Linkin Park, and didn't know this guys name or what he looked like until articles surrounding his death popped up, so I have no emotional connection here. It's sad for his kids and crazy how many well known people in rock have died over the last 18 months.

You honestly believe that having lots of money can allow you to just hand wave internal problems away? Never mind the childhood abuse, nevermind growing up unable to fully trust and confide in anyone because of it, I have money now, I can cure it! Jesus fucking christ.

what really upsets me is the number of veterans that are taking their own lives the government is not doing enough I watched 'The 7.30 Report' on Thursday night and was saddened to hear about Jesse Bird, he took his life on my birthday this year when I heard his story & his family talk about him I knew what he was going through. I haven't been in combat but I knew where his mind was at. what the f*ck is Veteren Affairs doing?? 'They deserted him': Veterans department accused of contributing to digger's suicide.
