Pretty spot on, but I think he would do more snare rolls.

I don't mind Lars's drumming, it just sounds a bit basic to me.

Everyone says Rob hasn't aged a bit, but then you go back and watch something like that and he looks 15 years younger.
Anyone miss the Hetfield trucker look? I don't.

Rob ages. It's just usually more common that 52 year old men are balding and don't work out.

He was still tasteful and chilled in 2003. It's from 2006 he started losing his discipline and breaking up the beat with snare shit. 2018 cover of Teen Spirit would sound much different I think.

He definitely didn't lose any of *it* but he was most certainly not chilled in 2003 haha. That was some of his most coked up performances in 10 years. He really degraded a lot in 2004, especially with his health issues. But another huge factor was 2004 was the year LiveMet came out, and the Metallica live market became saturated with really horrible soundboard recordings. It really makes Lars's playing sound a lot worse than it really was. But even then, by the end of 2004 vs the beginning, you can hear a clear loss of power, almost as if he stopped giving it his all over the course of the tour.

You know, I was actually going to say 2004 but then I remembered hearing some 04 shows where he still stuck to the Sanitarium beat, did his old Fade verse beat with the hi hats.....my problem with Lars is all the random snare shit and fills, I'm not sure he was doing that in 04 was he? Pretty sure he was still a solid drummer in 03 though I wonder if we'll ever know what happened before Download

I think after that incident is probably when he stopped doing cocaine. People said it was a panic attack or just over stressed and things caught up to him, but I think he almost OD'd.

I don't think he quit then because around 2010 he said he quit cocaine in 2007. The goalposts move when it comes to Lars quitting coke, wouldn't be surprised if he still does it sometimes

Well, whatever coke Lars was using, it must have been some really, really good stuff.

the bit he did at the end his toms sounded light and hollow... makes me sad, he deserves better toms. edit: I realised after I turned the computer off that toms are in fact hollow I needed a word like, no depth or something. almost sounds like he's hitting a kids drum kit... I don't know, what do I know about dum dums.
