Did Scully die yet? Or was that episode 6?

I just watched episode 6. Much better than the last two, but the story is ridiculous, even for the X Files. Great ending that's left me wanting more.
Overall, this reboot has been the Star Wars prequels of TV drama.
The finale was suspenseful, and left me wanting more, but it still suffered from awful writing, acting, dialog, and production values.
Episode 3 was fantastic. It was the only episode you could have watched in the middle of one of the older seasons and it would have fit right in.
I want to love season 10, because it's the X Files, one of my favourite series of all time, but if you take away the nostalgia, and consider if this was a new series and this was season 1, I would have aborted and not even finished the season.

I would say I'd have preferred the story arc to have been at least 3 eps. The story feels too rushed/crammed in for just 2 eps, affecting it overall. Could have done without the previous ep for sure.
Prediction, they're gonna spike the drinking water with some miracle juice and save most people. Something like that. They have to. It's "The X Files." There are weekly monsters to never catch.

The story arc makes no sense whatsoever.
It's gone from a government conspiracy covering up the existence of aliens and plans for colonisation, to basically the plot of a superhero movie, complete with supervillan and Mulder and Scully are now super heroes saving the world.
Oh, and the fact that all this started in Episode 1 six weeks ago, and were so emotionally invested in it, but then just never mentioned it, or any of the people involved for the following six weeks while they investigated trash men and did magic mushrooms, and then the final episode comes around and it's back to being the most important thing in their lives.
It's just so poorly written. I want to love it but I just can't.

This was my thinking also and that story should have spanned more episodes.

You kinda knew from the beginning that this would be very rushed. It's a shame

I am sad that we'll never get more X-Files without Chris Carter. He's managed to stretch the conspiracy stuff out making it even more convoluted, turning characters into caricatures and he's made it 10x less interesting. What once was a story about Aliens trying to and planning to invade and colonize the planet is now about the cigarette smoking man (who has turned into a comic-book villain) trying to literally kill everyone but a select few. Which lead to an episode that was just like any other generic contagion story we've all seen 100 times before, but with a UFO at the end so he could check that box. And people think another episode was needed? It'd be worse, he'd just invent more bullshit. He had entire seasons to wrap it up last time and the quality just fell off a cliff. That's why there's a negative trope named after him. I'd give anything for Vince Gilligan to become showrunner. I hope he's at least back to write a MOTW next season.

I lost count of the amount of times Scully said "alien DNA" in the finale. Ridiculous.

About as often as she said "Agent Einstein", which still sounded silly the 20th time.

Carter turned into a fan fic writer of his own shit. (that happened years ago though.)
At least EP3 was great, "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster". That was the best this return had to offer. I lol at people saying that ep sucked. That was the best ep since the series' glory years. Think I'll watch it again tonight.

The comedy episodes aren't usually among my favorite episodes, but this one sure is! Not mine either, I often feel like it's hurting the suspense when too humorous. This was great though, finally the acting was good and they did put some charm and soul into it. Now onto episode 4

I think we can all agree episode 3 was brilliant. And for that alone, I am glad it was brought back for a mini series. I would sooner an attempt was made than none at all.
Kinda reminds me of when they brought back Red Dwarf, and it was without any sort of soul and so disappointing, but due to volume of people who were eager and excited about its return, they then made some more classical type eps with Red Dwarf X.

I can't decide if I think episode 1 or 6 was the worst. What didn't you like with the first episode ? As far as I can remember it had more or less the same kind of problems as the 6th episode had. Both written/directed by Chris Carter...there was just so much talking going on, and as someone said it basically felt like Chris Carter has become a fan fiction writer for his own show (and I don't mean that in a good way). They talk and talk but not that much is really explained (or explained but makes no sense at all basically), and it all feels so rushed (which isn't that strange)...and to add to that the to me quite tacky element of referring to I want to believe in different almost cringeworthy ways.

Thats all valid issues, maybe I gave it too much credit being the first episode and all

S10 just didn't have the feel of the original show. Something felt missing the whole time. The original had this lingering feeling to it. A mood. This season did not have that mood in it.
