I watched episode 4.
It had the best acting of the season so far, but my god, such a rubbish monster of the week story. (There's a pun in there for those that have seen it)
I remember some of the old seasons had some dud episodes, Space, Monster in the Machine, etc...this would sit along side them if it wasn't for the story arc stuff also included.

Yes it was by far the best acting... By the monster, the rest was crap, again.
J/K I haven't watched it yet

Lovely, I'll be getting that Me too But Check one of the reviews, apparently series 8 has not transfered very well, so if you get it back you have to contact the studio for a replacement. It has all the details you need for the exchange.

Actually, here you go
"As we reported, this past early December the folks at Fox Home Entertainment released Blu-ray Disc versions of The X-Files - Collector's Box Set and as individual season sets. Folks who have made it as far as The X-Files - The Complete Season 8 on Blu-ray will have noticed that EVERY EPISODE in that season has an issue with the black levels on those, resulting in substandard video quality. Our friend Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits has previously reported that Fox is "replicating replacement discs now, with an expected ship date of March 2016. If you've purchased the set, contact Fox Customer Care by this e-mail address to arrange a replacement: foxconnect@orderassistance.com. This exchange program should work in all countries/regions globally.""

The best episode of X-Files is "Ice" the one where Mulder and Scully go that remote place in the Arctic and that thing starts taking over people. Even if it isn't a very original ep and was just a homage to "The Thing" it's my fav episode ever. Who agrees?

It's one of the best of season 1, but it's pretty much The Thing. Not one of my overall favourites.

Well I haven't watched the whole thing in years so I'll probably forget a few but The Post-Modern Prometheus, Drive, Triangle, Home, Small Potatoes, Bad Blood, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, War Of The Coprophages, Beyond The Sea. Most of the conspiracy episodes kinda all blur together so I can't pick out the best by name but there's a few amongst them I'd choose too.

Just finished episode 5. Really disliked it. The acting and writing was atrocious.
I was so excited when this season started, I enjoyed the first two episodes, loved the third, but the forth and fifth have been awful. Hoping the 6th is at least on par with the first.

I'll break down what's bad about episode 5:
- The story. Fucking stupid. This will sit with some of the original horrible episodes, like that one about the face on Mars, or the one where cats were killing people. "SCULLY HELP! ITS THE CATS SCULLY!"
- The acting. The acting from the supporting cast was so atrocious that I genuinely thought that certain scenes were dream sequences or something. The delivery of their awful dialogue was so wooden that it was distracting.
- The dialog. My god. The dialog. It's Star Wars Episode 2 bad.
- That sequence. Without spoiling the story of the episode, there is a sequence that's supposed to be funny/amusing in the episode. It's not funny or amusing - it's embarrassing. It missing the mark by a mile, and it feels like if goes for a solid 10 mins.
- The political overtones. There is a clear agenda with this episode - it's classic lefty sort of stuff. I could have looked past this if the story, dialogue, and acting were strong, but they weren't. So it's a bunch of wooden characters spouting shit like "No one is born to hate." or "They come here and steal our jobs". It was like an episode of South Park.
- The "new" Mulder and Scully. Back in Seasons 8 and 9, when Duchovny and Anderson dialled back their roles in the series, they introduced the awesome character of John Doggett - a hard arse sort of guy that didn't believe in anything paranormal. It was a strong character, and it gave the show a new dynamic. In season 10, they introduce "Miller" and "Einstein", which are supposed to be like younger versions of Mulder and Scully, right down to hairstyle, clothes, the way they speak etc... This is not supposed to be a joke, these are two serious characters that work with Mulder and Scully in this episode and will be in Episode 6. They are like cartoon versions of the main characters, and it looks like they play to hand the series over to them, which would make it unwatchable because the actors are awful.
Overall, it's awful. And I seriously recommend that fans of the show completely skip this episode.
