He died suddenly today. He was 70.
A reference for those that maybe never listened to him, he was a big influence on Fredrik from Meshuggah.

He was a big influence on many, many guitarists. There are so many clones of his style but, as with any originator, none could touch him.
I can't say I love all of his music, but I do love some of it. The Sixteen Men of Tain is a gem of an album. I've always respected Holdsworth as a musician and rated him as one of the best guitarists I've heard. Not just for his technical ability, but his style.
