The show needs a hiatus and a refresh. I was watching last night's episode, with Matt LeBlanc talking about the 911R and my god it was so boring. I was really trying to like it, to not be negative, but his voice overs really aren't engaging, his jokes are always super lame and aren't funny (does he write them?), and they use carbon copy lines from the old series.
"This is like a greatest hits record of all the 911's" - Has been used before. "They say never meet your heroes. but I say go for it!" *drives off fast in 911* - has been used before.
And the studio scenes where they read from the teleprompter are super cringey.
I don't know if the issue is:
a) The writing is lamer than it used to be. b) The writing doesn't suit the new hosts. c) The new content is boring. d) The new hosts are awful.
It's hard to pin point, but I've tried to like it and I just can't. Chris Evans leaving is a good thing for the show, but it's not like he was the only issue with it. They tried it with new hosts, it's failing. Back to the drawing board BBC.

I think it's a shame actually. Because it's him bowing to public pressure and adopting the (US TV) trend of binning something if it isn't instantaneously a hit. He was (subjectively) hitting the wrong notes this series but that could have been ironed out for season 2. He could have learned (and the production team too) and changed and grown and reshaped. Instead the chorus of bitching and booing has forced him to resign. Shame. The question is now - who will they get to front the show. They need a main 'guy'. Thoughts? He's also being investigated for a past sexual assault accusations, including flashing female production staff and bullying when his "advances" were spurned... Might have had something to do with it, or a fabulously convenient get out for BBC management If that's true it was probably like " Say you've resigned or this will come to light. " Wouldn't be shocked if the Beeb were looking for a reason.

As soon as they said "leave the format the same" it was over. Especially with a piss take of Clarkson in the first 30 seconds of the first episode. The cringe just kept getting worse...

As soon as they said "leave the format the same" it was over. Precisely my problem with it. It was the same show with shitty additions (two stars in a rally car?? Bollocks. Like the rally car idea though). Ph well. Roll of The Great Adventure or whatever it's called.

I'm not sure how much he'd be able to change his entire personality, unfortunately.

I can be funny, cynical, impatient and arrogant and can also drive. Although its just as likely I'll end up doing the same as this Evans guy ie. "flashing female production staff"

So I signed up for a free one month trial of US Amazon Prime and gave The Grand Tour a go. I enjoyed it thoroughly, although in reality it's just another Top Gear episode.
I haven't been following it's development too closely, so I was surprised to see all the excellent production values that I loved in Top Gear present in The Grand Tour. It's a great looking show, and it was pretty funny.
I could do without all the scripted studio tent scenes but overall I enjoyed it. Given that Amazon Prime isn't actually available in my country yet, there aren't any apps available so I have to watch it on the laptop and use Apple TV to watch on my TV, which was shit. So I'm not sure it's worth the $15 per month to watch it this way. I might wait for Prime to launch properly here and watch it then.

I think the idea is pretty much "Fuck you, it's our show, we're keeping it" and a little "star in a reasonable priced car was shit, you can keep it"

Watched the first ep yesterday, was pretty good although they went a little overboard with all the scripted nonsens. The intro was as glorious as I had hoped

Episode 2 was shit.
It felt like 75% tent, and 25% repeated scenes in that stupid combat setting.
