When going through lists of the best guitarists ever it's almost always exclusively men in them, and that got me thinking today: Who's the best female guitarist ever?

I'm not sure. There just aren't a whole lot of woman guitarists in rock and metal. Loads of female vocalists, but not many women playing other instruments.

Melissa Etheridge is pretty good and maybe Jewel.

Once upon a time Lita Ford would have been on the list somewhere.
Orianthi ripped live, but she was also annoying so -1,000 pts for that.

All I know is that Reba Meyers of Code Orange kicks ass. They opened for Gojira last time I saw them. I hadnät heard them before, but they sure kicked ass.

Do women outside of rock and metal count as guitar players? Cuz that's where you are going to find better female guitarists. See: Classical guitar.

I can't say I'm too familiar with a lot of female guitarists, or rock artists in general. But I really like Joan Jett, and she was dynamite when I saw her perform live. So yeah, I'll say Joan Jett. Also, I know that my dad likes Bonnie Raitt a lot. Isn't she supposed to be pretty great, too? I haven't heard too much of her stuff to be honest.

I f*cking love guitar instrumental music. Satch, Paul Gilbert, David Gilmour, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, John Petrucci... and yeah, they are all men Pete Adams just left Baroness the new guitarist is a chick called Gina. I'm sure she's good, John Dyer Baizley would only choose someone that fits the band.

Was just about to post this, they posted two rehearsal videos with her, I'll miss Pete just because him and John had a great vibe together onstage but the new girl seems cool, backing vocals aren't as good as Pete's but what can you do.
