I'm still on a huge Metallica high after the Copenhagen gig, so I thought it would be cool to hear about your favourite memories from seeing the band live.
I'll get things started:
The Big 4, Gothenburgh 2011: The sing along in Memory, Damage Inc, and especially hearing Ktulu live. Winning early entry through Metclub was awesome too.
Black Album 25th anniversary, Helsinki 2012: I was in the Snake Pit so the whole show was an amazing experience, the highlights were probably when Het played on his knees about 30 cm from my face on Wolf and Seek.
Metallica By Request, Helsinki 2014: Live debut of Frayed was the highlight the show of course, but hearing Orion was great too. It was cold as hell though, really freezing.
Now share your best concert memories.

Load tour here in MTL. I had a M+G pass, met James and Jason. Asked Jason to play the Prince that night and during his bass solo, he did.

Well, I've seen Metallica six times, and each one has been special in its own way.
1. Ruisrock Festival, Turku, 1999: My first big concert ever. I was 14 at the time. The bill also included Sentenced, 69 Eyes, Blondie and Apocalyptica. The highlights of the Metallica performance were Jason jumping on to the monitor (or amp) at the beginning of Fuel, with a big flame bursting behind his back, and a fully-lit passenger ferry passing by just when Nothing Else Matters was playing (the festival area was by the sea, and the ferries from Turku to Stockholm go by the area).
2. Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, 2004: My first Metallica gig as an adult. It was cool to see the "new guy" Rob, and hear the then-recent St. Anger songs live. Highlight of the gig was definitely I Disappear, which was totally unexpected for me.
3. Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, 2007: There wasn't any big "firsts" here, but just an overall great show. No Leaf Clover and Orion were the highlights this time.
4. Hartwall Arena, Helsinki, 2009: My first indoor Metallica show. The DM middle stage setting was awesome, as was the laser show. I absolutely loved hearing TWJYL live, but the highlight was without a doubt Turn The Page. I cried like a baby, not gonna lie.
5. Sonisphere, Helsinki, 2012: The Black Album show. Don't get much more special than that... Fantastic to see and hear all those songs live. And the support bands were pretty awesome, too! Amorphis, Ghost, Gojira, Machine Head... Great show.
6. Sonisphere, Helsinki, 2014: The "By Request" show. It was cold and rainy the whole show through, but hey. THE FRAYED ENDS OF SANITY. Fucking awesome.
That's all for now. After the 2014 show I remember thinking that "this is enough", that I wasn't going to go see Metallica live again. Maybe it was because of the long wait for the new album, which at that time seemed like it would never end. But now, with HWTSD out, I'm definitely interested in seeing them at least once more. And who knows? Maybe they'll release yet another album soon enough, so I have to see them again and again? Anything's possible!

Holy shit, there are so many.
2007 - Valle Hovin, Oslo, Norway: My first ever Metallica concert. My uncle took me with him. I was 14 years old at the time, and it was really my first BIG concert experience. I just remember when Ecstacy came on, goosebumps! Also I thought I was going to be crushed under a bunch of fans during the heavy start with Creep because we had about 30-40 thousand people behind us. Luckily my uncle was there and just held onto me. I remember Creep, Disposable, Sanitarium, Orion, One (because of the immense pyro show) being the highlights of the evening for me. Also, I was kind of bummed they played Roam because I listened so much to Black Album at that time and was kind of sick of Roam because of overplay, love the song today though. We walked back to the city, I could barely walk because of the ground we stood on for several hours. I slept like a baby that night! Also, my first introduction to The Sword. One of my favorite bands to this day!
2008 - Koengen, Bergen, Norway: I believe this was the first Metallica show after a short tour break so I hoped we would get something from the new album (Death Magnetic). Unfortunately that didn't happen, but the grin on me and my uncles face when they whipped out Leper Messiah out of thin air was something to be seen. A real highlight from that show! Also, Breadfan! Which the local press thought was a song from the new album.... I called the day after and wanted to rip them a new one, but no one answered the call. Also, Bleeding Me, that was fun, and Ride (which was probably my favorite track at the time). Also the foghorn before No Remorse was a big WTF moment.
2009 - Spektrum, Oslo, Norway (1. show, the second one was a month after or something like that): Hearing the new songs live for the first time was a treat. They played Turn The Page which was awesome. The encore with Overkill and Jump In The Fire was a surprise, but not really, cause we got to see the setlist before the show. Still enjoyed it though. Too bad the sound in Spektrum is beyond crap. Also, in-the-round stage! I was surprised how well you could actually see the band. My first meeting with the Cunning Stunts stage, loved it! Kinda sucked I didn't get to travel a month later and hear Dyers Eve, but what are you gonna do?
The main thing I remember from this trip though was how I narrowly escaped having an exam the day before. We went to see AC/DC and Metallica in a span of a couple of days, and if I had been called up when the teacher read up the names, I would have to travel back between the gigs. Luckily that didn't happen though. My classmates who was called up was so pissed off at me. We traveled right after the teacher read the names up, and I just went "seee ya bitches".
2010 - Telenor Arena, Oslo, Norway (1. night): I finally got to hear Blackened! And also Through the Never was a great surprise. We didn't go the other night and couldn't witness history when Unforgiven III was played for the first time, that stings to this day! I remember it was SO FREAKIN HOT in there. I don't know how many liters of water I drank afterwards but it was a lot. And coke, of course.
2012 - Valle Hovin, Oslo, Norway: Snakepit! That was awesome. And the whole Black Album + Blackened. Magnificent. I remember the whole place went total toilet break during Hell and Back though. I enjoyed it. One of my favorite gigs with Metallica. I was also in a fresh, new relationship at the time so that was exciting, I remember we texted back and forth during the train ride to Oslo and home, fun times.
2014 - Valle Hovin, Oslo, Norway: The By Request thing. Great gig, but it wasn't the same experience since we knew what was coming months in advance. Luckily everybody voted for The Four Horsemen, so that was fun. What a bill as well, it was Sonisphere so Metallica, Gojira, Mastodon, Ghost and Slayer all played.
2015 - Koengen, Bergen, Norway: Metal Militia and King Nothing. Awesome show!

That was my first show! Pretty cool setlist with Turn The Page and Trapped Under Ice. Seeing the band for the first time is a feeling I'll never forget. Let's hope they do a show or two in Finland this autumn.

2007 - Wembley, UK I just remember being overwhelmed when "Ecstasy" finished and they came on stage playing "Creeping Death". This was in the height of my fandom and I felt tears of joy welling up in my eyes.
2009 - Manchester, UK This was the night I learned how much of a monster song "Wherever I May Roam" is. I always felt the studio version felt a bit too rigid (for lack of a better term), but it sounded massive in the live environment.

Justice Tour, 2nd row in a capacity 2,000 crowd. James hunkered over his Explorer with all this red light washing over him, singing Eye of the Beholder.
EDIT - heading back to that same venue tonight for Opeth actually

Soundwave show when they pulled out Thingy. Sounded ridiculously heavy and creepy, definitely high point of that show.

November 18, 2010.
Saw Het in the crowd during Baroness's set, walked up to him and we bumped fists.
Then we got a crazy set. Orion, Shortest Straw, I Dissapear, Turn The Page, Jump In The Fire, Breadfan, Damage Inc.
Also Soundwave 2013 was amazing, they sounded unbelievable, Hetfield especially. And we got Leper Messiah, and amazingly, the best performance of My Friend Of Misery by the band, and the only performance outside of th anniversary tour.

I would love to do one of these but I'm too lazy, nearly 40 shows in and there's too much amazing stuff to tell about

15 January 2009, Washington D.C.
First concert ever at 15, had pretty good seats, The Sword (which I fell in love afterward so thank you Metallica, saw them 2 more times after that) and Machine Head. Remembered how crazy pounding Dave McClain's double bass was during their set, holy fuck. Metallica had a good set, they played Motorbreath, Harvester, Battery, and All Nightmare Long which are highlights for me. Pretty good first concert I must say.
