Good quality link (that right now isn't taken down) if anybody needs one: Wow, this kicked ass. Can't get enough. I liked how they arranged it with the vocals; trading lines in the first two verses (with James singing the first line in the first verse and Lady Gaga singing the first line in the second verse) and then singing the third one in unison. The rest of the vocal parts were also arranged in a cool way with the harmonising and the two octave singing in the final chorus. (Yeah, I know this is like one of those youtube comments that describes what everyone else who watched the clip already knows)

After the last two weeks James has had, I think he deserves a nice vacation on a beach somewhere. Poor dude.

A lot better! How did they get the vocals...? Or is it from some other show?

It has to be from the show. They don't release isolated live vocal tracks.
Unless someone is just really, really good at masking the instruments behind the vocals.
I'm probably wrong though.

Based on this they were also on fire at the Hollywood Palladium after the Grammys: Think I'm inspired by mr_math.

According to the guy on Facebook, the James was audible on the internet stream.
I don't exactly know how that works.

Yeah the official Grammy stream was playing looped music over the actual performances when I watched it so I had to change to a pirated stream. Not sure what that guy is talking about.

I'm fucking gutted....this is supposed to be one of those moments the world finally knows what we know and says we've been right all along. Uh... What? Metallica aren't some super secret club band that only their fans know about. They have a monumental 30-year legacy as one of the greatest musical artists of all-time. Clearly I was on about the mainstream, I'm quite aware Metallica have fans.

yepsure tell me, what have so far been different from the Hardwired tour to the DM tour ? The main difference was that the DM release and tour launch were celebrations. The band were hitting a bunch of festivals, celebrating their back catalogue, not just playing greatest hits like they are now. They were inspired and energised by playing ...and Justice For All and Ride The Lightning next to Bleeding Me and Devil's Dance. They did a shit load of press, we had interviews, videos, live streams of shows, we are went nuts over them debuting Cyanide. Metallica.com updating every other day with new content. The album came out, then they did the release party at the O2 arena, debuting their new stage production with the coffins, playing a bunch of new DM songs and a bunch of rarities like Until It Sleeps. That celebration vibe continued right through to the end of the tour in 2010. You could go to a show and just as likely hear The Memory Remains as you would ...and Justice For All. They weren't touring their greatest hits, they were touring their new album and entire back catalogue. The fact the band were playing so many different songs meant they always appeared to be having fun, really enjoying themselves, and really into the songs. This time around, they kicked off a similar energy back in New York and London with the press, club shows, etc....then they disappeared. Then the album came out, and they released the new music videos, some making of videos, did some press, etc....then they disappeared. Now they're back in the new year, doing what feels like business as usual touring like they do every year. "Oh hey we're playing a couple of shows here, and a couple of shows there". Then they arrive and play what we used to just refer to as their festival set at every show, with some new songs sprinkled through it. We'll get a recap video on Metallica.com 3-4 weeks later. There's no celebration. There's no hype. It's like they haven't even released a new album, that they're just doing a few gigs here and there as they normally do, and they happen to have a couple of new songs to play. It's boring.

I think it's strange that they haven't uploaded any new making of video since 2 months now.

Meh. Couldn't stand the all the cringey, corny fakery in it. Couldn't even watch the whole thing. Gaga and her clones trying way too hard, awkwardly. You fucks don't turn into a squeezed lemon watching that shit? It's embarrassing.

Other than that, it was a big, bombastic, stupid, fun performance and I would have absolutely loved it had the sound crew not fucked up.
It's not fucking chamber music jazz fusion. It's heavy metal.

There was nothing heavy metal about it. It was some stupid contrived bullshit with the production values of a low budget late night MTV program designed by what a bunch of suits think "heavy metal" is.
Stupid actors, cheesy flames, choreographed and unnatural dance moves and stage dives.
It was a genuine embarrassment.

So much this. I've probably watched it about 10 times today, 15 times if you're counting the new video with audible mic. Absolutely loved it.

You say that like there's some sort of definition as to what "heavy metal" can and can't be.
I'm sure both Gaga and Metallica had at least some say in how the performance played out, and could have nixed it at any point before the show (within reason, obviously). If you want to "blame" people for something that you consider to be "embarrassing" (Even if I had hated every aspect of it, I personally wouldn't call it "embarrassing", as I really don't give a shit what others perception of my favorite band is, but to each their own...), then some of that "blame" should be on the performers themselves.
At the end of the day, they're the ones who greenlit it.

Yeah it was over the top, but I don't mind that at all. It's Lady Gaga, she is always over the top.
