I think Dave unplugged the mic for having Master of Puppets play during their acceptance. Heh. "You know who came and unplugged it? I'll tell you who came and unplugged it. Dave Mustaine came and unplugged it"! (Points toothpick at camera)

Watched the full performance for a second time. Actually not that bad. It could definitely had been much worse.
See, positivity!

After an album is released the only thing to really talk about is them playing live. We have discussed virtually everything else about this band. The band also releases live videos for every concert they play, so they obviously encourage the fans to discuss it as well. Bitching about something that is promoted and released by an artist is perfectly fine in my eyes. We have all done it at one point or another and there is nothing wrong with being passionate about something you love. Yepsure and I LOVE Hardwired and are just a little upset that the way the record has been handled post release has been underwhelming by Metallica's standards. Fucking sue us. I agree... But you guys act like everything is different this time around ? There is literally not one difference between the DM tour and Hardwired tour. I think at the start of this tour the band was on fire, and everything since the club gigs has just felt a little lifeless. I get the Copenhagen thing with the band being sick and even mentioned that in my first post, but go back and watch the videos for the Asian tour and then watch some videos of the early shows on the DM tour and tell me nothing is different. I remember when DM was released everyone on the old boards was freaking out saying James was drinking again because he was so fucking fired up. The Metontour stuff might have something to do with me feeling this way as that was a huge part of the St. Anger and DM era and this time around it's become so unpredictable that it's almost a non factor. I honestly think the best thing the band could have done was space out the release of the videos for Hardwired to cover these long periods of downtime to keep the hype up a little more and give them a little boost in energy. The Metontour vids did that in the past. Now that the sets are very similar and the MOT vids are just songs and not much else, it's just going to get stale. The debuts are cool but once that goes away there really isn't much of a reason for them anymore. That's one of the reasons the set thing has been so noticible to me. Most of us just watched the tuning room shit anyway. Saying nothing is different is silly, we've all discussed the Metontour thing and whatever is going on with Kirk and pretty much all agree that it's weird. They changed lots of things this time around, and they can because it's their band. But it sucks as a fan because it really adds that unique aspect to this band. Call it bitching or whatever, but it's just because Metallica got me through a lot of shit in life and has a special place in my heart and I will always be passionate about them.

I very much agree about the Metontour thingy, very much, but I don't lumb that in with their live performances, it's a separate thing. I miss those funny videos as much as the next guy and I honestly don't care about the liveperformance videos anymore. Those Asian shows probably where shit, I don't know I haven't seen them and I don't care, I've been waiting for the tour to kick of properly, and they did in Copenhagen where one of the shows were better than anything I've seen on the DM tour. Or at least as good as the best from the DM era. James is firing on all cylinders and a couple of slow shows in Asia shouldn't take away from that.
Setlist wise it's the same stuff as forever, starting with two new tracks, ending with the same track, 4-5-6 new tracks and the stuff in between gets replaced. It's honestly the exact same formula as the DM tour. I can understand if people are tired of it or fed up with it, but it's like you guys are surprised about it or that you expected something else and I don't get that at all. Why should things be different this time around ?

From the live performances or ? Yes. Which might have something to do with how the set list has been laid out for so long. Just mixing up the order or something is all I'm saying. It might just freshen things up a bit. That's all I'm saying y'all. Variety is the spice of life. Just ask Smithers.

It might just freshen things up a bit. I think it's the formula, we follow everything so whatever they do with the set will feel samey in some way. I honestly have no idea how they could shake things up but I would love it if they tried. I probably wouldn't have bought tickets for the shows if they hadn't released Hardwired, but hearing new stuff is always exiting. Getting Harvester, Orion was fine enough for me. They have half the set already planned out with stuff they "have to play" and of course they could leave out NEM, Sandman, MOP and play Straw, Escape, Metal Militia, but 90% of the crowd is casual fans which buys tickets for those songs. I get that. What I don't get is them playing the same stuff at small club gigs, they should for sure think out of the box on those occasions.

Although it's always funny in stream threads to watch everyone go to sleep when One starts. The club thing is what sparked this thing for me. They usually played cool shit for small gigs but have abandoned that for the most part.

Also you guys have to realize that the band hasn't played in my area since 09. The only way I can see them live is through streams and shit so it's a lot more noticeable.

Other than switch 12 songs every night and fuck em up while trying to remember them. Imagine if we were as dedicated to AC/DC though

Hell I'd even be happy if they opened with Sandman. It's an awesome opener. Just mixing it up is all.

That would be cool as well, but then they can't use their cool new intro I think they are too old for that stuff, they need certain safe conditions to get through the show without falling apart. I do miss the days where things were more loose and not as tight. Saw my favorite Danish band Dizzy Mizz Lizz perform Friday and it was so cool, a much more intimate venue and they just kinda played the songs as they went along, no setlist. They don't have a big production though so it's much easier to do stuff like that. Jesus H Christ that was fucking terrible. I knew it was going to be bad i actually feel embarrassed. Yeah, it's was quite the shitter

I get that as they get older they might just say fuck it and want to cut back on shit like Metontour and play easier sets. It's just a bummer.

Doing that would be a great move cause it will make people think of Live Shit (San Diego and Mexico City). Although they don't sound like that anymore, I think Sandman as an opener really gets the crowd going. Especially at festival shows for instance where you have many more casual fans who likes NEM, Master, Sandman, or a Metallica show in general. God knows how many of them there are at most shows.

Lady Gaga's voice doesn't suit the shouty style of Moth, who's terrible idea was this?
Also WTF with playing MOP for Megadave to collect the grammy.
Also Dystopia wasn't even that good.

Watching it for a third time. It is very good! Kirk is on point, everything is what it's supposed to be, except for the technical difficulties.
Still can't get over how she just almost lays on top of Lars while he is playing at one point. His reaction was funny as hell!

My favorite parts were seeing James and her looking at each other while singing and how great it sounded most of the time when they sang harmonies in the chorus. Was also cool that she sang the main vocal line in the last chorus but an octave higher than James.

So did James rant at the Palladium gig later that night? No way they would've just ignored that. I would suspect that show to be a bit move energetic after what transpired earlier.
Also, my two cents on their whole pattern. I believe that they will play other songs to change up the setlist, honestly I wasn't expecting them to play Whiplash in Copenhagen or in China. It's early in their tour, we'll see by the summer if they have put in some treats or not because I'm with you guys, the different setlists is one of the main factors for me to see them live. When I saw them in 2009, they pulled out Motorbreath and Harvester, my father was shocked when they started playing Harvester.
I have hope that they will change it up. I think so, because if what you guys suspect is true and they do seem to be a bit bored or a bit eh about these shows, maybe a change up would help that. The MetOnTour videos though are a kind of weird, don't know why they split them up like they did, also when they started this tour and even a bit before the tour in mid-2016 they did have the traditional tuning room stuff like we had in 2004 but it seems like they opted to go for the 360 degree thing in place of that and have a meet and greet as a separate video...sometimes. Maybe the band is tired of having a cameraman in the tuning room all the time lol. Maybe they'll have a drone next time around.

It's a shame it went down the way it did, gaga brought a lot of energy to that performance and the guys pushed harder because of it. I hope they take her out on stage and do it properly at their later show with their own engineers. It could have been great and gaga has some decent pipes on her NO THANKS The good old days
