I really hope the setlist starts changing some. Fuck man. These sets are SO fucking stale. And the excuses we all come up with are getting really fucking pathetic. "Oh but this show is just x" "They only just released x song! They'll play some other songs soon!" "when they get to x show they'll play some different songs, you'll see!" "wait to the actual Hardwired tour kicks off then we'll see some different songs" "The Hardwired tour has started by wait till Copenhagen then we'll see some different songs" "You just wait till the Hollywood club show, it'll be really cool to see them play some rarer stuff" "Just wait till the Mexico City shows! I'm tipping Spit Out The Bone, Dyers Eve and Outlaw Torn!" We'll be two years into this fucking tour and will be delighted when they do something crazy and switch around the placement of Unforgiven and Sanitarium or play a different riff at the end of Seek. Or James doing something different than dropping to his knees to play the intro to Sandman. "HOLY SHIT GUYS JAMES DIDNT ASK IF WE ARE ALIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF BATTERY HE INSTEAD SAID DO YOU FEEL IT? THIS BAND ALWAYS KEEPS US GUESSING" /end bitter entitled rant

The whole promotional thing for this record has felt really slow and dull. Everytime we think "Alright it has started, we are getting some cool shit..." there is an excuse from people when nothing happens. I love Metallica because the last few years they pull out tons of different songs and you never know what to expect, and with them saying the fans love the new record so much and we can't wait to play it, and then they kick off new songs for songs we have heard 5000 times it starts to become boring. These small gigs are where the guys would do crazy shit in the past, and we don't really even get that anymore. It's just weird. Posted that on Judas but I think it echoes what you are saying.

I'm starting to realize I am slowly turning into yepsure.
I honestly don't want to spend $150.00 on tickets if I'm going to get the same songs I've heard fifty thousand times, and if it is a stadium tour I think that will happen.

Sorry but I have to say that some of you sound really fucking entitled all of a sudden, what the hell are you expecting ? They switch songs every night like they always do, they start and end with the same few songs as they've always done. They play 5 or 6 new songs from the new album, that's awesome in my opinion.
There will be different songs every night and some nights there will be more special songs and some nights there will be premieres. They are not gonna make a set filled with your Escapes, Eye of the beholders and stuff like that, it's never going to happen so stop dreaming about it, it's stupid.

I can't believe I am turning into someone that complains about setlists and Kirk's guitar playing, etc... I remember the hype and excitement of both the tours of both St. Anger and Death Magnetic lasting years before they came to Australia and played. This time around, I'm so bored of Metallica only two months after they released their strongest material in years. Somehow, they have managed to suck all hype and excitement out of the album release and tour. I've honestly never seen the band more uninterested, and more phoned in and going through the motions like they are now since the late 90's. I know Kimbo just saw them in Copenhagen and loved them, and it's hard to say how much of this was attributed to illness. But they got 3 or 4 of the same new songs off the album, the rest were the same songs they've been playing every show for the last 3-4 years, plus Prion and Ktulu, which were obviously cool see. But man, from 2003-2013, you didn't know what Metallica were gonna play. And you'd hear Unforgiven and Sanitarium and Bells and they would be awesome, because they didn't play them at every show. You weren't expecting them, and the band looked like they genuinely enjoyed playing them because they weren't playing the songs so often. Now it's like they are playing shows out of obligation so just throw their generic best of setlist at each performance, and sprinkle one or two new songs throughout it. Arrgg...

I'm fucking gutted....this is supposed to be one of those moments the world finally knows what we know and says we've been right all along. Uh... What? Metallica aren't some super secret club band that only their fans know about. They have a monumental 30-year legacy as one of the greatest musical artists of all-time.

Now it's like they are playing shows out of obligation so just throw their generic best of setlist at each performance, and sprinkle one or two new songs throughout it. Arrgg... The album has been out for a little while now and it's sort flat lined promotion wise. Maybe it's the age thing but with all of the great reviews this album is getting and tons of people wanting to hear these songs live, it feels like pushing the songs aside for old shit is the wrong idea. I would even say this album has received much better reviews than DM did. Even after Hardwired came out the interviews around the album were weird. The whole "We didn't realize the record was this good" thing Lars kept repeating, and the whole Kirk thing just surrounded the album with a weird vibe. Not to mention the thing around here to say is "Just wait until the REAL tour starts...". The album came out in the November, that excuse is shit at this point. Maybe the band doesn't enjoy the album as much as we do? Even the performances of the new songs feel kind of lifeless. Watch the Asian tour videos and tell me they look like they are happy to be playing new stuff. It looks like they are at the end of a three year tour and want to go home. Around DM the band came out after the release some fucking oomph in their performances, and I saw that for maybe a couple of weeks for this thing and then bam, it all died out. The tour has had some bad luck though, admittedly that could slow shit down but at a certain point when is it okay to start wondering what is going on? The tickets for this tour in the US are going to be really expensive, and I honestly don't know if I'm willing to pay almost 300 bucks for two tickets if I'm going to get a band that's just going through the motions with the same stage banter and setlists every night. /endrant

I don't think yepsure and Steel will be satisfied until Metallica plays a special stadium set for only them, and going off of a setlist they write.

I don't feel entitled to anything, as I'm not going to these shows.
We're just disappointed that the band who just released a fantastic and exciting album, that's received pretty much universal praise, is going through the motions rather than creating some hype, energy and excitement.
The setlists are just part of it.

Also, it will get boring as shit around here without the cool rare things. I don't want to see Load and ReLoad combination threads.
I love Ghost, they are probably my favorite band. But after I see them live after an album is released, I kind of tune out because they never change up the setlists and there is nothing to talk about. It's just one of things I love about Metallica and what makes the boards so cool to visit. SO LICK MY BALLS LEECLAIRE YOU CUNT MUFFIN.
And like yepsure said, I'm just sad that the band is kind of blah after releasing such an awesome album.

Maybe they're just blah to you guys because you're burnt out on Metallica. Or you hyped up everything surrounding Hardwired so much that you were bound to be disappointed. Or you haven't spent enough time LICKING MY BALLS! Steel, you prolapsed anus.

I just think we were spoiled for a really long time with tons of different sets and maybe they want to stop doing that, and it makes me a sad little bitch.
That and the band sounds so energetic and refreshed on Hardwired, and then they go play live and this happens:
Tell me they look like they are excited to play new stuff. TELL ME LEE CLAIRE YOU WILLY WANKER.

Hardwired exceeded my expectations precisely because I wasn't hyped about it.
And I'm not burnt out on Metallica. It just seems like the guys in Metallica are burnt out on Metallica.

Around the time the album was about to be released I wasn't even listening to them much anymore, and then they release this crazy good album and I got all excited to be a fan again.

Actually I lie. The guys have been like this more recently than the late 90's. Remember in the second half of 2004 when they still had 6 months of the St. Anger tour to go and they were all hating life and couldn't wait for it to be over, then once it finally was they took 12 months off?
That's what 2017 feels like so far.

Now, if we even get any backstage content, it's a 360 tuning room video of the band playing Fuel.

is it just me or the mic wasn't working for james in that gaga video? aaaand i don't like sharing the stage together, she doesn't belong there and this type of songs don't fit her voice at all, and every of her actions seem pretentious.

Also sorry for whining so much guys.
I think it was because I sat through the Grammy show to see the band and then that happened.

What bothers me the most is that their shows still follow the same formula as it did from 2006... change it up for gods sake. They are on autopilot

Or they wish STEEL WOULD QUIT OVERANALYZING EVERYTHING METALLICA AND GET HIT BY A BUS. Christ, why would they wish that? Seems a bit extreme... Steel, you smooth cock.
