The best part was her leaning on Lars when he was trying to play. Someone make a gif of that please.

It was the most heavy metal moment of the night, in my personal opinion. Not that it was any competition. The way they just roll on despite technical difficulties and fucking turn that award show upside down with that performance was just really professional, good - and that's what Metallica is to me. A fucking steamroller (couldn't think of a better word, I'm tired) of a band who does not care, do whatever they want, and is spured on by shit like that happening - and just play better and faster. Show must go on.
Regardless of the mic incident this was THE performance that would and should be talked about for days to come, possibly even weeks. And they managed that, so what if it came with some bad publicity? Every bit of publicity helps. Yeah, it was over the top, but far from embarrassing.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion that it was cringy, but I think they take the mic incident too much into consideration, or the mix, or Lady Gaga or whatever. Some people in the audience had probably never heard anything like it before, and I bet they were more impressed than standing in a corner cringing. Shit happens, beside micgate it was the best performance of the night by far.
Saying that, they probably won't do a Grammy performance again. But this is Metallica, so we will never know exactly what is going to happen next year or the year after that and so on.

at the idea that the whole thing was thought up by some suits and Metallica and Gaga had no say in it at all.

at those who think James Hetfield wanted actors on stage and choreographed dancing and stage dives. I'm sure they all signed off on the idea as they would have for all other TV performances, but if you think Metallica came up with that whole concept you'd have to be pretty naive. I'm sure the band were pumped to play with Gaga and some Grammys creative director put the whole thing together. Even if we put critical thought aside and say that it was Metallica's idea, it's execution was more contrived and as corporate than anything else they've been involved in. It's clear their team weren't involved in putting this together. The only things missing were some motorbikes on stage and some product placement.

Regardless of how much input they had in the actual idea, they did give it the green light. It's not like they walked on stage without a single clue of what was going on
And again, if they really hated it, they could have nixed it.
Anyways, regardless of what we all may think of the quality of the production, I'll never rag on them for giving it the old college try.

Who said anything about Metallica being forced into it or that they didn't enjoy it?

I just don't think we can safely say that they had nothing do with putting any of that together.

I'd be willing to bet that the song and flames were Metallica's idea. And the dancers and mosh pit were Gaga's. And the Grammys suits went, "Alright then." And then they "forgot" to plug in Hetfield's mic in case he decided to sing Last Caress again. Or maybe everything was Hetfield's idea and he adamantly refused to perform unless there were choreographed background dancers. Until Hetfield comes out and says, "I wasn't entirely cool with those dancers, yepsure knows me best," we have no way of knowing. As far corporate, what about when they played for the Salesforce CEO? Or for the launch of Call of Duty? The Grammys thing may be contrived, but I wouldn't say it was soulless corporatism.

The best part was her leaning on Lars when he was trying to play. Someone make a gif of that please. That was very silly, she also gave a Kirk a massage at one point.

I'll bet Kirk went back to his hotel and pounded some vodka and heroin and passed out instead of jacking off like he originally intended to do. I'll keep updating reddit to see what they find.

(Even if I had hated every aspect of it, I personally wouldn't call it "embarrassing", as I really don't give a shit what others perception of my favorite band is, but to each their own...) Yeah, same here.

Even if the mic was plugged in it still would've sucked.
Lady Gaga's dancing alone gave me diarrhea.

So basically, AM here (as well as there) is just for praising Metallica or face strawman arguments, red herrings and ad hominems until you eventually crack and get banned or delete your account?

People saying the performance was bad but at least the pictures were nice should be shot in the head with a Luger.

Another issue for me is that Moth into Flame basically describes the plastic lifestyle of celebs like Gaga. The irony...

Another issue for me is that Moth into Flame basically describes the plastic lifestyle of celebs like Gaga. The irony... Not a coincidence I think. I think it was a similar kind of thinking to what was behind having Marianne Faithfull in The memory remains. That's another reason why I think this concept just works.

The song seems to be about people who do things for fame rather than for personal enjoyment. I don't see how Gaga is someone that song talking about. I dont think she would have for example made a jazz album with Tony Bennett if she was all about fame.

I actually thought that Moth might be about Amy Winehouse. Just feels like a suitable fit.

It felt like Heavy Metal: The Musical or something you'd see on the Simpsons.
