I loved Jason, was sad to see him leave, but I'm not going to kick Rob around, mainly because I LOVE Rob. He is an excellent fit in every way imaginable to Metallica. That crabwalk is one of most badassed things I've seen in concert from a bassist. And from what I've heard he's a great guy. Looking forward to many more years with Rob in the band.

Pretty much the consensus the guy can't sing to save his life. It's not like he can sing in key for starters, much less the mouth full of marbles part. I wasn't the hugest fan of Jason's vocals either but he at least knows how to sing in key.

Okay, so he isn't excellent on vocals, but what he lacks there he makes up in showmanship and ability.

For me, Rob will never beat Jason on vocals nor stage performance. But he's certainly more of a better fit for the bass player position. His tone is better than Jason's and he's a much more technically proficient bass musician.
PLus they're a different band now and his personality fits. He's much more (as I see it) in the Kirk camp of mellow where as Jason was always kinda uptight about being perfect and being "metal".
Love Jason. Love Rob. All good for me.

If it couldn't have been Rob, who do you think would have worked? Everyone in the audition footage was pretty God awful, asides from Rob of course. I wonder who else auditioned that we are unaware of.

And has a pretty mean looking crabwalk, second to only Rob.

Three hour shows, are you kidding? That's fantastic.

I know Bruce Springsteen isn't quite as old as Paul, but in 2016 when he was 16 days shy of being 67 years old he played his second longest performance of all time. He played for 4 hours and 4 minutes with no intermission, firing on all cylinders. His longest show ever (2 minutes longer) was only four years earlier in 2012. That's really inspiring to me.

What's always funny to me is this mentality...
"Rob is wasting his talents in Metallica"
while simultaneously...
"Bring back Jason! He's better than Rob!"

I remember when Rob first joined and so many slammed him for his crabwalk. They just couldn't accept him for who he was and wanted Jason back, immediately, as if they had a choice in the matter.
