Best album of the year so far for me, I know there are a couple of Deftones fans out there, what were your thoughts on the album? This is probably my favorite track of the record, dat riff

I'll give it a spin. I saw them live a bunch of times back around white pony and actually worked for them for a day on the around the fur tour for a school project. I heard the new single its good, I just got Deftoned out at some point over the last 10 years. Will check it out.

somebody has to tell these fellas that it isn't 2003 anymore and the ambient/pretty/indie thing with heavy and noise has been improved upon since and it no longer seems new or innovative in and of itself. it is a decent enough record but nothing really gripped me and i found myself feeling pretty bored after a while. 'rubicon' is a belter though, definitely my highlight.
(and as much as a love flamingos and pastel, deafheaven totally stole the market on the indie/metal crossover with pink cover art scene)
EDIT: it should be said that this is not without reverence to deftones and their style/artistic vision - saturday night wrist might low key be one of the most important records (for cultural and aesthetic reasons) the young bartman laid ears upon - but this just doesn't feel fully realised or as good as it could be. as i said, so many other bands (deafheaven, isis, touché amoré to name but a few) have raised the game over the past decade that for all the past praise that could and should be heaped upon deftones, their current output is not deserving of it or perhaps the legacy it has.

my numetal loving friends/acquaintances think it sucks, so I bet it doesn't.

I'd give it around a 7/10. Good album, but nothing more. That said, it took me a while to warm to the last album, so it could be the case for this one as well. Favourite tracks are "Xenon", "Phantom Bride" and "Doomed User".

Not listened to it in full yet, but the stuff I've heard so far indicates to me that they're letting Chino (and his Crosses work) influence them more and more.
I'm more of a fan of the heavy side but I'll still give it due attention.

Different than the last one but it's not a bad record.

Went to see Deftones last night, first time seeing them but it was cool to see a big enough band in a relatively small venue (they're doing two nights there), great performance, they only played 3 songs from Gore though, would have been nice to hear a couple more.

They only did one from Gore in Manchester ("Phantom Bride"). And they didn't play "Kimdracula" or "Digital Bath", the twats. Good show though. Abe Cunningham's drum sound is amazing.

They played three from Gore last night, (L)MIRL, Geometric Headdress and Gore, would have liked to hear Prayers/Triangles, Doomed User and Phantom Bride. They played Back to School which is kinda weird, always thought they hated that song. They were on top form though, it was cool to see them in a smallish venue as they probably could have sold out the arena here.

I've seen them a couple times at various festivals. I'm always surprised by how well that lead singer can scream.....so clear and crisp. You'd think he'd have a scratchy, gritty voice by now....he's been doin that shit for 20+ years but somehow he's still goin strong!
