Not what I was expecting from Chris, much more "serious". Still some cool heavy stuff.

Offspring just uploaded their new album on YouTube. Pretty cool songs. Some are meh, but there's some goodies in there if your a fan, elevator version of "Gone Away" and some nice punky ones. The Offspring have sucked for a long time and this new album is no exception. I love their early old stuff, but a new album that's only 30 mins long and two of the songs are covers? And the rest of the songs are generic radio friendly crap about not getting enough sex. They need to just stop.

It's more of a collection of work that's been plagued by delays, drama, and more recently, covid, and they just said fuck it, wrapped it up and put it out there. Bob Rock produced it, I was watching an interview and it was funny to see Dexter talk about Bob's work methods because we are all so familiar with Bob from our Metallica backgrounds, and outside of a few random clips here and there, I've never heard much of that kind of insight regarding Bob.
As far as the songs go, at first they sounded a bit stale, or rehashed, but they just won't get out of my head. They sit well after a few goes for me at least. Is it their best work? Far from it, but they're some good new summer tunes to pass the days.

ford71V8, as an Australian, do you know of Hayley Mary? Before she was the singer of the band The Jezebels and nowadays she is a solo artist. I haven't listened to their music (yet) but I am in love with her solo stuff so far! No doubt my greatest discovery of 2020. Don't know if it's your thing or not, but check it out if you want to:

The Jezabels got fairly big here but I never clicked with them. Wasn't aware they had broken up and lead girl had gone solo. Not bad songs.....not sure if its because of her look, but it sounds like modern Pretenders or something.

They haven't broken up actually, I think they're on a hiatus. Yeah, sure, that's definitely an easy and I would say fitting connection to make (which I myself have). : ) I think her sound is modern and really classic at the same time, which I love.

I was wondering, before Metallica who did you guys and girls listen to? what band or artist did you love the most before Metallica hit your ears? for me believe it or not it was U2 *cue Alan throwing up* when I was in high school I thought they were the sh*t! and I was so upset when ZOO TV didn't come to my city (I live in Perth, Australia and we are the most isolated city in the world). now days I still like them but I don't think everything they do is amazing. I think after *POP* they went safe and made music that just didn't take risks. so Metallica have been my favourite band since probably 1999 when S&M came out, though LOAD 1996 was when I got into them. so who was your favourite band/artist before MetallicA?

so who was your favourite band/artist before MetallicA? First love: Kiss After that it was a lot of Savage Garden for a period. Also Red hot chili peppers. Some Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Hanson as well.

As a kid I loved The Beatles and KISS (still do)
I discovered AC/DC when I was about 11 or 12 (found a stolen car-stereo in the park next door with Back in Black cassette in it) and then it all happened with Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Whitesnake..... then my friend bought Master of Puppets because the artwork looked cool.

Savage Garden, Backstreet Boys & the Spice Girls?? are you for real? ford71V8 I liked The Beatles as well, it wasn't until 1995 that I really go into The Beatles when I bought their whole collection.

whist waiting for my Mum who was in the dentist today I listened to some of Michael Jackson's HIStory cd, the 2nd disc. it's not bad, no where near BAD, Thriller or Off The Wall but it has a few good songs. edit: I think the prison video is better, just my opinion of course

Savage Garden, Backstreet Boys & the Spice Girls?? are you for real? Whaaat? I guess I wouldn't be surprised if I got flack from some random, but from the person asking the question I just answered...? I'm definitely for real. They all had really melodic hits and I still love that. I love melodies and I feel the opposite about music elitism.

I happened to read a review for LOAD and a so called fan wrote a letter into a music magazine complaining about the new album, saying LOAD wasn't metal blah blah. so I thought I'd give the album a try as the review said it had a bluesy sound (must be the groove of it) and I was into some blues at the time.

No worries. Hm, the first time hearing them that I remember was when I heard Nothing else matters for the first time. I think I loved it straight away. Remember that I said that my first musical love was Kiss. It's not that much of a stretch to enjoy Nothing else matters or for example The Unforgiven II based on that. Shortly after hearing Nothing else matters I bought S&M, my first Metallica album. Around the same time I was also getting into Iron Maiden, so I was beginning my metal journey around that time. I fell in love with Metallica's and Iron Maiden's music for much of the same reasons why I enjoyed the pop acts that I mentioned: The melodies. Both Metallica and especially Iron Maiden have written some really, really melodic music.
My favorite Kiss song when I was a child was I love it loud. That song was so heavy to me. Those drums...And in Metallica and Iron Maiden I found that heaviness again.
Melody + Heavy = How I came to love Metallica. My metal journey kind of ended there really...Until Ghost came along. Now I love 4 bands in the hard rock/metal category instead of 3.

so who was your favourite band/artist before MetallicA? Probably The Offspring, or The Prodigy. I had a punk phase when I was 10-12, with a mohawk haircut and all that, but when I first saw Until It Sleeps and King Nothing on MTV, I was turned to the metal side of things.
I still love both of those bands, mind you. Seen them both live, too!

Life before Metallica? Is there such a thing?
Before I was aware of Metallica, late eighties, wasn't a fan of much. I had the Blizzard of Oz record, Twisted Sister Stay Hungry record, Warrant -Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich cassette, and The Simpsons sing the blues album. Pretty shit collection, but not bad for a little kid. Then Metallica skull fucked my brain and there was no turning back.
