No joke (also no clickbait, yes I meant favorite Met album). It is still comparatively new so I don't want to jump the boat; I was gonna post this a month ago but I wanted to wait until it was at least a month or two old before I started throwing around comments like this.
I've been realizing lately that whenever I want to listen to Metallica, I can really choose a song from HW to satisfy my needs, whatever I might be feeling. Metallica for me is very emotional, and most of their albums cover a certain emotion, but I feel like HW has a more broad spectrum of emotion done successfully versus some of their other albums which are more straight-minded in that category. That coupled with the modern sound, vocal & guitar harmonies which I'm a total bitch for when Hetfield nails them like he does throughout the whole album, and just more compact songwriting style they approached this album with versus DM.
I don't know. I'm super tired and I just wanted to post this now to see the responses I get tomorrow. Thoughts? Why am I wrong?!

It's a great album, but I don't think it's consistent enough to be my favorite. The quality dips significantly for me after the first disc.
I will say I am happy with the production. Vocal and guitar harmonies are great, and I wish they could retroactively add this sound to DM.

It's the only album I listen to by them right now. It also has that quality of "This is the best song on the record" for me whenever the next song starts playing. It's a really good album, and I think I'm just so burned out with the old material because of eight years of live streams and many live dvds. It may not be the best they have ever made, but it's certainly the best since the 90s and has many awesome moments.
It's still fresh and unlike DM and St Anger it sounds great production wise so there is nothing that really bothers me when I'm listening to it. It just feels good to have a decent sounding record from a production standpoint after not having one from the boys since the 90s. The song writing was always there, but without good production records suffer.

I can definitely see it being a favorite for someone already. It's so much better than DM, St. Anger or either of the Loads, and I fucking love the Loads. Hardwired is not a perfect album, but it is definitely a great one. And as I've said before, it's a Top 10 Metallica album if nothing else.

It's in my top 5 right now, if not for any other reason than how eclectic it is in terms of how much ground it covers. You get a little bit of every side of Metallica with this album.

It's in my top 5. Where, I'm not too sure yet.
Also, ManUNkind is amazing.

I'm in love with Dream no more! Especially the ending. Such a catchy ass song!

It's not rushed and you get quality out of it. I'm the same way, every time I drive somewhere, I strictly listen to Hardwired. It's addicting. This might be out there, but the Load-ish type riffs on this album sound better than the Load album in my opinion. Whenever I hear Am I Savage? and that riff kicks in, I immediately think "this can be on Load or ReLoad".

It definitely can be most easily summarized as "the Met album from 1994 that never existed" just like DM is sort of like the Met album from 1989/1990. But at the same time this album has a lot more to it than strict comparisons to the band's first 6 albums, which is a beautiful thing. Moth and Halo especially are two songs that feel like fresh new steps for the band.

just like DM is sort of like the Met album from 1989/1990 This is just ridiculous. Lars' words, not mine!! That being said, not to offend any huge fans of DM, but Hardwired definitely made some of DM's weak spots more glaring. In that, for awhile, Death Magnetic was the only instance of the sound of "modern day Metallica", so you had nothing else to really listen to if you wanted to hear the band in its current state. Now that we have another album from this era, it definitely has me looking at DM a little more critically.

ManUNkind is still growing on me in parts. I think the fact that I initially watched the video threw me off. Same with Savage. I just don't really dig those vids.
I try listening to the audio but the images automatically pop in lol

I try listening to the audio but the images automatically pop in lol It was super interesting to see the first glance reviews come in on forums once the album leaked, and then once the videos all came out. The fact that the more hardcore fans might have been more likely to pirate the album first could be a variable, but the album was pretty much unanimously less enjoyed by the people who's first exposure was alongside the videos. Would have made for a cool little study!

It is a great album. I still think I need more time to digest if its their best, but it is one of their best for sure. This album has everything
