Well we don't have this thread on this forum...or at least, we didn't!
For me, on the 34th day of this year, it is Leave Me Alone by Hinds.
I know, like salad, ★ is undoubtedly better for me and of a higher quality or at least has a grander or greater creative and aesthetic vision (and follows through with it). But like chips and cheese, Leave Me Alone is better for my soul and makes me happy/sad sentimental and generally conforms more to my slacker sensibilities.
It's really fucking good tho, lads. What else is?

I got the new Bodom one for my birthday, have not heard it yet... Think it came out last year, or maybe the year before that.
Only other CD I bought this year was best of Creedence Clearwater...

Did not realise Bodom were still a thing. In fact, I forgot about them until the other day when I found Something Wild in my CD collection!  A CCR best of will likely finish high on any 'best of _' list, tbf, but as such we'll have to disqualify that selection from the list. |

Best of 2016? So far, it's without a doubt David Bowie's ★. Megadeth's Dystopia is a pretty good album, too. Other than that, I really can't say so far. Dream Theater failed to impress me with The Astonishing, although I've only listened to it once so far.

New Bodom was last year. Seems to have got a mixed reception. I thought it was pretty good.
As for this year, at the moment it's Avantasia, although of course it's early days yet.

If only Blackstar ended with a cover of "Get me away from here, I'm dying", it would literally cover all of your bases. Bowie, twee indie pop, Scottish, apt title. Also the Bowie version of that song I'm hearing in my head right now is great. |
