Hey Guys. I didn't see this new Lars interview posted yet. In the below interview, he expresses concern about the band getting old and their ability to continue performing the classic material in a live setting. I think most of us have already realized that this was becoming an issue, based on recent live shows, but I'm not sure if the band members have actually conceded that it was a problem until now. During a brand new interview with CBC Radio One's arts and culture program "Q", METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about the issue of drummers and health, particularly after RUSH admitted that the Canadian rock trio's retirement from the road has happened, in large part, because of drummer Neil Peart's tendonitis and diminishing physical abilities. "When people ask me to look into the crystal ball into the future: 'What do you think? Are you still gonna be playing…?'" Lars said (see video below). "It's the great, big unanswered question. Mentally, creatively, spiritually, aesthetically, we'll go for another hundred years [and] we're fine. Physically, obviously, it's the big question. To help Lars and his bandmates prepare for the grueling nature of their live performances, METALLICA employs a staff of physical therapists, trainers and massage specialists on the road. Ulrich runs, stretches and does torso-strengthening exercises as a matter of course. "Some of the hardest-working people on our team are a couple of guys that travel with us that stretch us out and sort of stitch us back together," Lars said. "Kirk [Hammett, guitar] is the one that does yoga. I get stretched and I get massaged. It's kind of like… Unfortunately, it's kind of like a sports team now. It's actually kind of pathetic." They will just have a tape play the drum tracks for the other 3 to play along with while Lars hobbles around the stage throwing sticks at people when it gets to that point.

Perhaps they should do what Axl and friends do. Fire Kirk and Lars, bring in new personnel and still call it Metallica.

Perhaps they should do what Axl and friends do. Fire Kirk and Lars, bring in new personnel and still call it Metallica. It's an option. Guns were successful in creating "Chinese Democracy", without the majority of the classic alumni present for that album. Given Metallica's studio output since Black, I'd be open to them trying out other musicians, if it meant getting a stronger, more back-to-their-roots album. New blood isn't always a bad thing, IMO .. Other bands have done it. Look at AC/DC .. they didn't cease to exist because of Brian Johnson's health concerns. They hired another lead singer to deliver. In fact, I saw them this year, and they put on an amazing, kick-ass show. If James were to decide that Kirk and Lars were no longer physically capable of delivering a good Metallica album, wouldn't you support his decision to replace them with younger and more technically proficient players? Serious question?

AC/DC should have called it a day after Malcolm, Phil and Brian all left. The fact that they're still going and calling themselves AC/DC is a joke.

In fact, I saw them this year, and they put on an amazing, kick-ass show. Unfortunately, you missed a lot of really cool shit, my man. If you were able to experience one or more late 70s/early 80s shows, you'd probably better understand why watching them make a complete tool their lead singer is pretty embarrassing for a long-time fan.

My roommate, Jason, stated that he once posted on this forum, but I forgot to ask if that was the username that he went by. I can confirm if you'd like to know. Jason never specifically stated what went down with him here, in great detail, but he did say that he felt as if he was being bullied by certain members and staff, at times, into trying to like the current era of Metallica more than what he actually did. He told me that he read the forum rules and didn't see anything about "having" to like the current era of Metallica or DM. He thought that his '83 thru early 90s fandom would have been enough for him to have been welcomed. Regardless, I'm not here to take sides. I wasn't here. But since you asked, I figured I'd pass along what I do know. My other roommate, Rick, and his girlfriend, Chanelle, are big Metallica fans too, but I don't believe that either has ever posted here.

Guess now we can bet on which one of your roommate will be joining this board after you get banned, and i am not talking about chanelle, though it would be quite interesting to watch you play a woman's character here, HR has been requesting for one, it'll be a great Christmas present for him
