Was wondering why there isn't a thread for one of the most influential and most successful alternative/grunge bands. There must be one so I created it.
What are your thoughts on them in general?
For me, they used to be my 2nd favourite band but one or two years ago I just lost interest in them, not completely but I listened to them way less than before. Now I kinda came back and I'm sort of rediscovering them now. They are phenomal at what they do. DuVall is a good replacement for Staley and they keep releasing good records that even come close to their 90's output, well at least to Tripod.

I haven't followed anything recent, I used to really be into them. I still love Jar of Flies and the unplugged album and there are many great moments on Dirt. But, for the most part, their sound is too downer for me the past chunk of years. Brings me to a depressing place I don't like to be in.
They are brilliant song writers. There are so many great things about their music, I learned so much from them as a musician/song writer.

They are definitely one of the last great rock 'n roll bands, and quite possibly the best and the most influential band to come out of the 90s. They are consistent as fuck, and have too many hit songs to count. Awesome, awesome band.

Dirt is one of my top 5 albums of all time.
The last album was very disappointing though, easily their worst album.

I used to own one of their albums. Sold it. It was kind of boring.

I love Alice In Chains! Saw them a few times in the early 90's, and they sounded so damn good live. I remember buying Facelift on a whim when it first came out in '90. I didn't hear anything about them before, but our local radio station (I do live in the Seattle area) was losing their shit over it, so I grabbed it and was instantly blown away. Having lived in the Seattle area for years and watching the "grunge" scene unfold, Alice In Chains was hands down the best band to come out of this scene. Forget Nirvana - Alice In Chains was the real deal.

I've been a big AIC fan since I first heard cuts from 'Facelift' in late 1990 and I ran out and bought that cd. I saw them open for Van Halen in August, '91 and they (and VH) were spectacular. 'Dirt' in '92 is good, I prefer 'Facelift' myself because I feel debuts usually carry a bit more.. rawness/anger/different vibe than the records later on. New singer William DuVall is a pretty killer replacement for Layne (R.I.P.) and I better give a R.I.P. for Mike Starr too.
Soundgarden of course too...but Soundgarden kind of lost it for me after 'Superunknown' as I much prefer 'Badmotorfinger' and 'Louder Than Love'
