I'm talking about any band here.
You know that feeling when there's something awesome about a track and the rest of it basically sucks...
Do you change arrangements or cut off an annoying part off from a song... or maybe connect two songs or parts of them to create one great one and then listen to your own "improved" version?
It's likely that I'm going to get a lot of shit for this... because "they're not originals" and all that. Well, they're originals for me, good music, only rearranged.

Yeah, did some chopping, adding and EQing etc on Death Magnetic. Only if it's for the better.

Nope. If there's only one thing I like in a song and the rest of it sucks I don't listen to the song. What's the point?
I've done tweaks with master stems though - making ringtones etc. But other than that.....

But what if that one part is ridiculously awesome in the middle of something you don't really like... EXAMPLE, don't judge me, but it's true... Damage, Inc. bridge, that riff is amazing, the one with the lyrics: "We chew and spit you out We laugh, you scream and shout" Rest of the song... I don't know, not my thing, but I HAVE to hear that awesome riff sometimes, so I connect it to some other track, as an "intro" perhaps?

I wouldn't do that. The closest I've done is cut the into to That was just your life and tacked on the belated intro to My Apocalypse.
I hate stop start, snare fill intros. Saying that I did the same to Judas Kiss. That starts with a fade in. Like the DM teaser video they released. Sounds much better.

Nah i've never done that. For better or worse I accept an album as it is.
If the band officially releases a newer version which is more to my liking then cool.
I don't care about any Moderus versions of Death Magnetic because they're not official.
I bought the iTunes version.
Otherwise you just get every version that there is and you can't discuss it with people because every one has a different version.

Never, haven't even thought about it. I'll just enjoy the good part.

If the band officially releases because they're not official That's just it, does have to be "official"? For me it's official enough if after some editing I like a song even more.

If there's an obnoxiously long pause between the final track of an album and the "bonus track" I usually edit the pause down considerably. That's about it.

When Lulu came out everyone was complaining and asking for a version without Lou so I made a couple that I removed the vocals and uploaded them, people were all over them but then I felt bad and kind of like a prick towards Lou so I removed them from youtube and just told everyone how to do it so they could themselves if they wanted to.
Besides that... yes, at some point but I can't remember why or what, it was years and years ago.

I have done a few. My Metallica related ones:
Cut all of To live is to die except for the intro/outro and middle section. I call it the mellow edit. Changed the tempo of Through the never to match the tempo they use when playing it live. Cut out the Shortest straw part after the solo, so that it goes straight into the third verse instead (again like the modern live version of it).

I made an extended To Live is to Die. I copy/pasted the outro to make it longer then mixed james and kirk talking about the night Cliff was killed over the top. Probably could have done a neater job but turned out ok.

Did it for a friend a few years back.

I can take what Mod did with DM, not more than that. Cutting and adding to songs are just too much for me.

If there's like 30 mins of silence..I dropped the song in Logic and exported the "hidden" track as it's own thing and chopped out all the silence. Then put it back in iTunes as it's own song. I did that for "The Cage" at the end of Oasis' Heathen Chemistry.

I once edited together the original Mercyful Fate tracks to form the medley we all know from Garage, Inc.
That's about it though. I would never alter a song to make my own version, and to be honest I've never felt the need.

I make various edits of songs all the time. I do this as a learning experience. I rarely share them. I've had people ask me to do a lot of edits/mixes for them on various stuff as well. I've edited Type O Negative's "World Coming Down" album to omit the non-music tracks, directly flowing from each song to the next. I made a similar edit of "Bloody Kisses" that omits "Fay Wray Come Out and Play", "Dark Side of the Womb", and "3.0.I.F.", replacing them with "Suspended in Dusk". I also use the "Summer Girl" version of "Summer Breeze" with the changed lyrics. I've never tried remixing it though to better fit the sound of the album. I also changed up the order some to better fit the longer songs. I've done a lot of Metallica edits, obviously. Some people like them, some don't. Here's a link to an edit that means a lot to me. I love it so I'll share it.
