When it was released, I thought My Apocalypse felt it was supposed to be a Dyers Eve-esque closer. Which is fine because it fit that good. In terms of being a good song. It's a descent song. Excluding the loudness of that whole album, it's not a bad thrashy fast ending song, its nothing great.
Hardwired felt to me like a good Battery-esque thrashy opener, but for me it felt a bit too "safe". The fact they thought of it the last month they recorded to me sounded like they couldn't think of a good opener. It's a good song nonetheless, but if they are going to use it as the title song, opener, and set the tone for the whole album, then it lacks a tad in that department compared to the other songs on the album.
Now that I got that out of the way, Hardwired versus My Apocalypse. In my opinion, I like My Apocalypse a bit more because when of those last 2 minutes (It's a descent song up until the last 2 minutes, then it gets better xD). I like Hardwired, but I like it more when Metallica go "hard in the paint" as the kids these days say.
