Let's have at it, because I'm genuinely curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this in one place, because I've seen the comparisons drafted up before.
Firstly, I've adamantly opposed My Apocalypse on the old MetBB pretty much every time it was brought up; absolute atrocity of a song. But on the other hand, I do enjoy Hardwired a good bit. I think it's because it's more concise and straightforward, it feels more genuinely thrashy, whereas MA sounds super forced to me, with one of Het's worst riffs in existence. The vocal line also just doesn't meld well with the riffing in my opinion.
Thoughts?

I see why people hate MA, but I love that one. The whole middle bit and solo destroys Hardwired IMO and the Lyrics are some of my favorite from recent Metallica.
Though Hardwired has the better verse riffs and I love the delivery on the last verse.
In a perfect world, I would take the best parts of both songs and put them together into one crazy ass song.

My Apocalypse is better in pretty much every way. Hardwired is a bit more "fun" but that's about it.

Hardwired isn't revolutionary, but it's fun. There are obviously much better openers the band has made, but it does its purpose. |

I think it's because it's the shortest song on the album so there's not much to it compared to the others.

I love MA loads more than Hardwired, but I agree with the sentiment that a fusion of the two would be awesome.
Harwired: Intro, main riff, production
MA: Lyrics, vocals, vocal melody, solo and basically everything from the bridge and out is 5000x better than hardwired.
Dat bridge riff and the harmonizing part in MA is pure perfection.

Hardwired is considered a bad song? It's the best song on the album, IMHO. But most people seem to rate it in the bottom 3. And yeah, it's definitely better than MA, although I like both. |

If MA didn't have such an absolutely boring main riff I would love it. Well, that's not entirely true, I do hate Lars' drumming in it excluding the end. But the middle section is ace. I love that Kirk riff! And the harmonies! And the vocals! But the rest brings it down.
Personally I would put Hardwired above it, because I feel like it's a fun, punchy song that's cohesive and entertaining, although it isn't amazing or anything. Plus it's a cracking live song, very good.
MA 6/10
Hardwired 7/10

I find it absolutely atrocious.
That being said, the middle section of MA blows any part of Hardwired out of the water. If there were a way to stick the whole middle section of MA into Hardwired, you'd have a pretty awesome thrash track....
Though still not as good as Spit Out The Bone ;)

I quite enjoy "Hardwired". The main riff never fails to get me air guitaring. "My Apocalypse" is passable enough but the inferior of the two.

I've never been a huge fan of MA. I like parts of it, but the main riff is one of my least favourite Metallica riffs. It's so... lame? I don't know.
I think Hardwired is better for what it is, but I'm still not a huge fan of it either. Still, it would definitely edge out MA for me.

I like 'em both. But I think Hardwired gets the win because I can go back and listen to it many times and not get bored of it like My Apocalypse.
