This is the place to share your favorite live performances...
Muse: Live in Rome (possibly my favorite ever captured performance. Epic shots. Epic sound. Epic performance.)
Red hot Chili peppers: Off the map (brilliant dts sound, great performance before they transitioned into the 'meh' bland group they are now.)
Rammstein: Volkerball
Joe Bonamassa: Live at the royal Albert hall
Midnight Oil: Triple J 10th anniversary show (shot on goat Island in 1985 with Sydney harbour as the backdrop for what I believe is the most iconic Australian rock band ever. This truly is a special moment, Australia is not the same place anymore.)
The blues brothers: Winterland 78 (That's right, these guys weren't just a movie but a legitimate group consisting of extremely talented musicians fronted by Belushi and Aykroyd performing classic rhythm and blues. Get there double album too. It's the tits.)
Woodstock 1999 (I'm a bit of a nineties tragic but there's some awesome performances and moments in this DVD which has sick surround sound. Also, boobs.)
Led Zeppelin: The song remains the same (I know we have probably all seen it but it has to be here.)
Metallica: Live in the Roseland Ballroom ( Only a bootleg but full performance of garage Inc in arguably one of their strongest live periods. PLEASE REMIX AND RELEASE THIS METALLICA!)
Arctic monkeys: Glastonbury 2013 (These dudes are sick and Alex Turner is one of the best songwriters of the last decade.)
Dire Straits: Alchemy (At the height of their rapid rise, one of my favorites.)

RHCP - Live at Slane Castle Or perhaps most shows with Frusciante in the band. The show in Montreal seemed to have been a good one:

I think it was Woodstock 94, Metallica and Chilli peppers played that gig, along with a ton of great, varied acts. I used to have the cd.

Opeth - 2004 This was when non-mainstream international bands were just starting to head down to Australia more regularly. It was Opeth's first time down here and the first time I'd seen an international band. And it was awesome. Great setlist and I got right up the front. I was leaning on the stage in front of Martin Mendez, headbanging like a motherfucker. Blackwater Park was the encore.
Dark Tranquillity - 2006 I wasn't really a Dark Tranquillity fan prior to this. Or even after it. I only really knew The Gallery (and still only really know that). But my friend wanted someone to go with and he paid for my ticket, so I went. Bugger me if Dark Tranquillity are not one of the best live bands I've ever seen. They're one of those bands that just pull you in with their presence.
Boredoms - 2010 Hours of experimental music with ten drummers on stage. I got to see Yamantaka Eye live. Super energy and powerful music. The support band weren't anything amazing but I didn't really care about them. Boredoms + drummers were tight and in sync. Thundering rhythms with evolving melodies and textures climbing over each other.
Swans + The Necks - 2011 Swans are fantastic live, as one would expect even if they haven't seen them. Loud and commanding! Michael Gira has a real powerful presence, even from 20 metres away. The Necks opened the show, which I was ecstatic about. Long, instrumental, ambient jazz improv. Wish I had taken a joint.

Haven't seen many really big shows; slowly starting to change that by seeing Maiden in April. Hopefully that's great.
I think my favorite concert I've been to with this awesome show on New Year's Eve a couple years ago where two local bands came together and played Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road in their entireties. The first part of the set was the two bands coming on separately to play some of their original music, which was pretty good, then after that they took a little intermission to set up the stage and went through song after song in both albums, playing them pretty much note-for-note, which of course required a bunch of different instruments to be taken on and off the stage at various points in the show. They timed it so that they were playing the outro of I Want You (She's So Heavy) when the ball dropped at midnight, which was pretty epic. All eight band members also sang lead vocals on at least one song, and they were constantly switching instruments with each other. Just an all-around spectacular show.

I kind of meant epic live performances caught on film- so we can go out and see the ones that are suggested

Totally agree about the Metallica Roseland Ballroom show. This will have to do without an official release

Stevie Ray Vaughan at El mocambo - dude is amazing, doing live what hendrix did in the studio
Jake bugg live at Lowlands 2013 - cool head on young shoulders, this lad should make it big
Totally agree with Midnight oil show, thats a great one.
Opeth - blackwater park in full at Royal Albert Hall. Some fans think its not the best but I love it.
Led Zeppelin O2 reunion - goose bumps with this one. We only recently watched the bonus dress rehearsal disc, was awesome

This was a TV performance but Tame Impala were phenomenal on this French show the other night. This is brilliant.

I would put Led Zeppelin's How the West Was Won on over Song Remains the Same

Rammstein - Volkerball for sure.
I'd also say Live Aus Berlin, that one is criminally underrated.

Midnight Oil: what I believe is the most iconic Australian rock band ever. AC/DC would like a word with you. Midnight Oil were a one hit wonder, maybe not in their home country, are they still even making music?

Midnight Oil: what I believe is the most iconic Australian rock band ever. AC/DC would like a word with you. Midnight Oil were a one hit wonder, maybe not in their home country, are they still even making music? It is quite obvious that acdc are the much bigger group. By a long shot... But this is why I used the phrase MOST ICONIC AUSTRALIAN BAND to describe the oils. Their lyrical content was always very meaningful and relevant to issues facing our country be it political, social or environmental. No other band has ever represented our country and shown the love for the land and people like they have. As to being a one hit wonder, they had many hits here. Just get their greatest hits album (20,000watts rsl) if you wish to explore them. The lead singer Peter Garret ventured into politics during the early 00's which definitely had its ups and downs. He has since left politics and there is whispers of a tour which they have been offered large sums of money for, for some time. I really hope they do as I'd love to see them live. You really should watch the oils on the water if you want to experience what I have described about that performance at that time.

When Midnight Oil released an album, the first thing people would ask was, What are they annoyed about this time? To be honest, there's a lot of Oil songs that shit me. Partly thats due to radio flogging the crap out of the favourites, killing them via repetition. Species Deceases EP is killer though, closely followed by their Bird Noises EP

TV/WEBSTREAM PERFORMANCES BUT IRL SAVAGES ARE ACE TOO (honestly one of the best bands, if not the best, i've ever caught live)
i've seen the latter described as being "between dead kennedys and joy division" sonically, so you know what you're getting into. this band are so great.
