That's what I miss the most so far. Overall I feel that Death Magnetic have quite a lot more strong choruses than this album. I kinda see what you are saying, but I don't think about it like that, I just want chorus to be good. Dream No More haven't got a fancy melody in the chorus but that doesn't matter, it's fucking amazing anyways Agreed on Dream no more, but that song has so much more good stuff going for it that the chorus doesn't have to be amazing. And it's still one of the better choruses on the album so...even better. One of my instant favorites on it.

My brain is fucking with me. Now I feel like Atlas is a little bit faster and vocals are layered. It goes smoothly after listening to Hardwired.

Thanks guys.

This album it seems they were allowed to be a bit looser because a lot of care was put into every facet of writing, James just had to write stuff that sounded good in the context of the track and the songs still worked for the most part.

If james can sing dream no more live as good as on the album, it will be goosebumps.

Halo On Fire definitely sounds like it should be the last song on the album. The ending is the most farewell-y thing they have ever done, and would a really fitting bookend to their career.

Lets praise Confusion. Great song! That will be easy. Great song. I don't know why the reviewers said it is a tad weaker than the rest.

Yes, Halo should have closed the album. And the chapter as the last Metallica album.

I agree - Hardwired definitely sounds different to the single release. Just goes to show that streamed versions of the songs suffer from issues from the compression.

I really like ManUnkind. Maybe as a drummer I understand the drums more that people seem to not like?

Anyone else hear Harvester of Sorrow in the intro to Here Comes Revenge? It's not the only allusion to older Metallica songs on this album. I thought the beginning of Spit Out The Bone was pretty similar to Metal Militia's intro.

That may very well be the case, it's probably just a several listens to get into type of song for people, the drums in the track confuse the hell out of me but I confess that I'd be better at playing the drums if I was unconscious and the mid-sleep spasms I have somehow connects with the snare.

One thing I gotta say. I still love Hardwired to death, it's in my Top 10 Metallica songs ever, and definitely the best song they've done since goddamn how long... But to be honest, on this album? It sticks out like a sore thumb. It's painfully obvious it was written totally separately from the other songs. :D

Drums in ManUNkind are kind of folk-y maybe?

First listen done. Solid overall but no songs jump out immediately like "Life", "Day" or "BBS" did from DM. Some really good guitar melodies though. Vocals are ace, best James has sounded since Garage Inc., which was his peak. Gonna have to give it a few more spins to form a better opinion.

I agree with nothing jumps out, but it has a subtle brilliance around it, that makes that not matter, if that makes sense? Fucking love it.

Get the feeling it's one of those albums that will improve with each listen initially.

Or to put it another way - the total is more than the sum of its parts. There are genuinely jaw dropping moments (some short, some long) here. They are sprinkled in everywhere. So when you deconstruct a song there will always be bits that don't flip a switch for you, but as a whole? It works. Boy does it fucking work.
