I really don't know what Lars was thinking with his playing on Man.

Am I just the one who feel the intro to Murder One could been written by a 9 year old picking up a guitar for the first time?

On ManUn now. It's.... interesting. It's kinda like Poor Twisted Me in that I think I might come to rate it* in a few months but right now it's a bit hmmm.
*To clarify when I first heard PTM I thought there was some cool stuff in there but there were other tracks I liked more. Same here with ManUn. There's some interesting stuff but compared to what I've heard so far, it'll be on the skip list for a while.

This album has some of the catchiest choruses. Everything flows so natural, hooks and lyrics are very memorable. Overall great song writing.
The production is very good. I think Metallica needed a really good production to support this material.
Metallica got heat for years about their choices (and sometimes rightfully so).. this time around i think they nailed what they were after for. Props

Have to note that the reverb on the snare in ManUn is REALLY distracting. It's resonance really squashes over the other instruments.

I'm not sure if I like it more than Death Magnetic. The much superior production with the addition of vocal harmonies is a very welcome change and makes the songs sound so much livelier. I wish Death Magnetic had that. From a songwriting perspective, I don't know. I'm going to have to listen to it more and hear the songs live, I guess.
Current favorites are Halo On Fire and Here Comes Revenge. I think Moth is up there too as one of the best on the album.

Ok finished.
First disc is gold. Second one has a string of filler (Manunkind, Revevenge, Murder One)
But Spit Out the Bone makes up for it. Awesome track. First time since Justice that I can honestly say that it would fit on MOP or Justice just fine. Is it Symbolic riff that I'm hearing. Is Kirk SWEEP PICKING?

HCR: Christ Lars, we don't need a snare roll that lasts 16 bars long (3m40 ish)
Also, that tom fill his does in the melodic bits sounds suspiciously like the tom fill in NTWD.....

I swear I heard some sweep picking.

Christ .. James' vocals on Spit are the epitome of aggression! And that middle section.

There are 8 good songs on this album imo:
Hardwired Atlas, Rise! Now That We’re Dead Moth Into Flame Halo On Fire Confusion Murder One Spit Out The Bone
The rest of them not great tbh.
Overall rating 7.5/10

Hardwired - good albeit generic as fuck Atlas - good Now That We're Dead - Love this tune. Awesome groove. Moth - great Dream No More - love it, wonder if the madness part is a conscious follow up to Thingy. Must be. Halo - Great although some awkward transitions Confusion - Cool groovy Loadish track Manunkind - shit Revenge - boring Savage - cool Murder One - boring Spit out the Bone - amazing
