Right. And I don't think they're great because they're simple. Metallica makes the riffs great because of their songcraft. But that's my personal view. Any other band could play Sad But True and make it sound limp. All the YouTubers in the world can't replicate that sound. But in my opinion, the riffs still aren't that great. It's the personality of the band. I know others will disagree, but fast doesn't equal good either. That wasn't my point anyway.

'Great riffs' is all relative. Do riffs have to be fast or have a lot of notes to be 'great'? I don't think so.  |

I can see where you are coming from, I do think some of those riffs are truly great. Like the SBT main riff. The verse riff though, like the one in DNM is pretty uninteresting, but like you say, they make it interesting, they make it fit with great vocals, attitude and mood. |
