Nobody, the Grammy people are just that clueless. Also see them getting the nomination for best rock song and best rock album this and last year, instead of heavy metal for some bizarre reason. Playing MOP when Dave went to collect his Grammy was just as bad.

Dave Mustaine's life is basically a long series of jokes where the punchline is "Metallica."

HR starts his Worst Song evaah thread with ManUnkind and its become one of my favourites of HWTSD. Shame that the solo wasn't up to scratch but you can say that for a heap of the tracks.

ManUnkind is one of the best songs they have put out since the early 90s. That solo is the worst though. I wish we could get a version without a solo.

The "you turn to stone" part of "Dream No More" is the heaviest thing Metallica has written.
Ever.

I still think their heaviest song is either Sad or Thingy. But Dream is up there, and ahead of Devil's Dance for sure. But, there was a lot of heavy shit on TBA. I know I just recently said this somewhere, but, TBA is their heaviest record IMO. Justice could have been maybe, if it had the heavier production. I think that's what they where seeking out with TBA. The 80s was still an innocent time in understanding 'heavy' and making it so. Production wise. I believe it was because of format. Vinyl through speakers was still an issue. Too heavy/bass = skipping. The rise of cassette and then just as quickly, CD, changed that. Recordings became much more sonic in the late 80s/early 90s.

Harvester doesn't get considered much for it's heaviness.

Harvester doesn't get considered much for it's heaviness. You read my mind, I'm listening to Dream right now and just thought the Clean part in Harvester, when played distorted is way heavier. Came here to post and saw you just posted the same.

Speaking of, it was nice to see that Blut Aus Nord linked the Harvester performance below on FB. Nice to see an extreme band not trying to be too cool for Metallica.

Sad, Harvester, Thingy and Dream are their heaviest for sure. If you'd want to make it Top 5, then maybe add -Human. The "You've got to breathe, man, breathe" part.

I personally consider Harvester the heaviest Metallica song as a whole.

The House Jake Built is pretty heavy in its own Loady kind of way.

You can't be too cool for this anyway; it will most likely be too cool for you instead. Metallica looking cooler than their own action figures, sounding better than on the album, all in front of a million crazy Russians.

I know I posted this before, but this part sounds heavy as fuck. Master of Puppets (depending on what era you listen to) is pretty heavy too. I agree though Dream No More is on The Thing That Should Not Be-type level of heaviness.

Not a fan of DNM, it's slow and plodding and the riffs aren't great (ditto for Human). Their best slow and heavy song is probably Thingy followed by Sad.

Really, though, none of Metallica's "heavy and slow" songs have great riffs. The songs are great because they're visceral. Thingy, Devil's Dance, Sad, Dream, etc. They all have plain as fuck riffs. Metallica makes them work because of attitude and/or creepy factor. It's why Dream No More falls right into the category with some of the greats.

'Great riffs' is all relative. Do riffs have to be fast or have a lot of notes to be 'great'? I don't think so.
