How bad must that video have been for them to go with the studio clips instead? Unless we will see it as the second video like they just did with NTWD. Are you thinking about the Atlas vid ? I doubt the cars one was for that

It might just be the Atlas video would've taken too long to edit so they just scrapped the work that was done and had the YouTube guy cobble together a quick vid from existing clips. I have a real hard time imagining the video being so bad that the band plain rejected it. I mean, they had to have an idea for what it was gonna be like since they were there filming the damn thing!

I didn't think the Atlas Video was that bad, the videos for Spit Out the Bone and Halo on Fire were absolute stinkers though.

Even worse was the hype leading up to that video, all the Halloween masks and codes etc. Then the video dropped and it was like wtf is this shit?

Even worse was when the tracklist was released , I saw the title "Atlas , Rise!" and I was expecting a gorgeous track. When it was released , it was a huge letdown. It was nowhere near my expectations and that shit "windows movie maker" video made it worse.

It has grown own on me, but its like some sort of well produced song off of St Anger. To each their own. Still not track 2 worthy IMO, Moth would have been better in that slot. I'll cheer along this summer when I hear it live, but it sure does have some stinker moments in it. Some days it's in the pocket for me, other days it's pretty meh. The pre chorus, chorus and beautiful harmony bit make up for the clunky intro, shit solo section and stock verses.
As far as 2nd tracks on a Metallica record go, its right near the bottom for me.

I love Atlas, Rise now, it's one of my favourites.
But the video is definitely awful.
I picked the guitar the other day and without really trying I figured out how to play most songs from the album. I know a lot of you did this months ago. It's just such a simple and fun album to play, Atlas especially.
It doesn't sound it, but it's probably the most simple and basic album from a guitar perspective. It reminds me of the Load albums in the sense that there are so many riffs reused. Much of the album is centred around the same few notes/riffs. E.G. Dream No More's main riff is the same as Confusion's middle section (at a different speed/tuning).

I think I haven't played guitar in about 2 years. (out of the past 22) I've learned many of the riffs on HWTSD without picking the guitar up because I know the notes now. (well, a standard tuned guitar following old patterns I'm familiar with)

Atlas is shit but other than that I agree, it's quite easy to figure out and play, par a few fast notey sections. I enjoy it more when I'm drumming along though, it's very simple but quite groovy. Although I get sick of hearing other bands beat the 4/4 standard drum beat to death, I still love grooving along to Lars with James chugging on top of it.

They played Atlas with a straight beat in the chorus while warming up in the tuning room. How did they not think that sounds better? Maybe the current version sounds good for the first chorus, but not every one.

I thought the same, that at least the last chorus should have been a variation.

Song buddies!! I just love the groove of it, yet it's still metal. Same here, and great vocals, not an entirely butchered solo either. It's one of the more complete songs, i feel , on the album.

I agree that the ManUnKind solo may be cock, but the song itself is certainly no Mona Lisa.

Does everyone agree that ManUNkind and Murder One should've been left off the album leaving 10 songs?

Does everyone agree that ManUNkind and Murder One should've been left off the album leaving 10 songs? Nope. If you absolutely must leave off two songs, I'd say "delete that" to Dead and Confusion.

Hardwired is great, if I had to cut 2, Murder and NTWD would go. Hell, replace either with LOS and it would better.

How the hell can you guys want NTWD off the record ? Song itself is too much Enter Sandman. I only like the middle part of it which they ruin it with big fake drums live.

How the hell can you guys want NTWD off the record ? Sounds like a Megadeth song off of "Risk" or something. If its on, I'll listen to it. But I have yet to have any interest in seeking it out on my own. BBS kicks its ass if comparing the 2 stinkers IMO.
