Maiden show was killer. New stuff sounded great live. Bruce not 100% but still put on a good show, including singling out a dickhead in the crowd and getting him removed. "Don't give me the finger or I'll get ya backstage and sort ya out myself" Love it. Janick was fucking distracting. This aerobics prancing around shit has to go. Was hoping Eddie struck him with his axe when he came out. Adrian surprised me by playing his Ibanez Explorer. I bought mine in '83 or '84 because Adrian used one and still have it - was pretty cool to see that he still uses it live. Show was 10/10.

I'm shocked even one person would defend him.
Would love to hear his live playing isolated from the rest of the band just to see what he is actually delivering amongst the theatrics. His Hallowed solo last week was terrible so I went back to ignoring the poser.

I'm curious as to how you can despise Janick so much yet still give the show as a whole a 10/10.

Seriously though, do you honestly not see the appeal at all? It's all right if you don't care for him, but I enjoy watching him dance around. He's having fun and expressing himself in a way that's comfortable and natural for him, and I think that rocks. I certainly don't see how that makes him a poser.

Hmm, yeah you are right, that doesnt make much sense. 9.7 / 10 coz a 9 is too low, I really had a great time and they sounded awesome. So I guess its a single thing that I didn't enjoy and thats Janicks antics. Poser is probably the wrong word, but its borderline. Some of it doesn't look overly natural. I guess I'm a bit oldschool on this, Adrian and Dave were my guitar heroes as a teenager, maybe thats all I need or want. Janick makes himself hard to like or enjoy to these eyes.

Do you think they will ever start experimenting a bit with the setlists as a tour goes on?

It's cool to hear Blaze sing it! But...the video is terrible.

I probably do prefer disc one, they're both excellent though.

Just found out they're playing in Ireland in May, tickets on sale Friday so will have to get them straight away because the gig's on a Saturday and I expect it will sell out. The prices are dear as fuck but I haven't seen them before so I kind of have to.

Which Iron Maiden (or possibly Bruce Dickinson) song is this? The melody just came to my mind and I can't remember which song it is, so I'd appreciate the help!: picosong.com/Us3U/

Aah, found it! I could only remember the words So we from that part so I thought I might as well search for it...and I found it! It was/is Age of innocence.

I just did an Iron Maiden introduction playlist for a girl I'm chatting with:
01. Remember tomorrow 02. Different world 03. Children of the damned 04. Infinite dreams 05. Flight of Icarus 06. Phantom of the opera 07. Wasted years 08. The Trooper 09. Strange world 10. The evil that men do 11. Revelations 12. Hallowed be thy name
What do you think of it? They all originate from my own best of Maiden playlist and I tried to pick songs that were all catchy and accessible but also in some cases a bit outside of the standard hard rock/metal song formula. As you know Iron Maiden songs are most often filled with good/great melodies though, so hopefully she can find something to like also in the more proggy stuff I included. She mostly likes (indie) pop/rock but also a bit of Metallica and Rammstein apparently.

Hm...not one of my favorites but certainly not a bad one either. Should listen to it again to remind me of how much/little I like it.

Include Dance of Death, man. Was my favorite song when I discovered Maiden.

Needs more Be Quick Or Be Dead, and songs from Brave New World. Also, no matter how you feel about the song, you absolutely MUST include The Number Of The Beast on such a list.

Flight of Icarus 4. Revelations 5. Strange World 6. The Trooper 7. Infinite Dreams 8. Wasted Years 9. Phantom of the Opera 10. The Evil That Men Do 11. Remember Tomorrow 12. Hallowed Be Thy Name This is pretty a good list of accessible classic Maiden songs. Personally I would prefer more modern stuff like Out of the Silent Planet, Rainmaker and Speed of Light though.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that would probably work too. My idea as you maybe can see was to have a slow epic ballad-y opener and then go straight into Different world which would normally (and does) function well as an opening track. I'm kinda thinking in an LP format as well, so Phantom of the opera is the last song on side A while Hallowed be thy name is the last on side B...the two big epics of the collection I'd say. Out of the silent planet was definitely a contender in being added to the tracklist. I do feel that it would be a good thing to have at least two later Bruce tracks, and maybe one Blaze track as well. I don't know which one with Blaze if I would go with that though...Futureal I guess is the most accessible one.

Be quick or be dead is a bit too...metal I think. Not melodic enough I'd say. Something from Brave new world is definitely a possibility (as you can see in my reply to waunakonor). Yeah, good point...but then I guess Run to the hills should be a part of it too.

There are some really awful songs on Dance of Death though, i only really like No More Lies and Rainmaker. In terms of quality it is similar to a Matter of Life and Death (only Different World and Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg really cut it).
