So Messi retires from international football at 29, following Argentina's defeat to Chile in the Copa America final on penalties. Thought he'd do it after the next World Cup but seems four defeats in nine years in major finals has left him a bit demoralised. Yeah so it would seem, maybe he'll change his mind. Though others players are doing the same, Mascherano, Aguero etc

The AFA are a bunch of crooks and the players are fed up of being scapegoats.

Ibrahimovic saying he's going to Man Utd (which we've all known for a good few weeks now). I'd love him to fail, but with his and Mourinho's trophy records, I'd probably back them to get some silverware next season (sadly).

Oversimplifying maybe, but some of his titles in Italy like the one with José he won almost singlehandedly. Solidity at the back and pass it to Zlatan :P

I like him very much, I used to hate him though. I think it's a shame he will end his career in such a shit club, he won't win anything with that horrible team

wtf man :(
I was quite surprised he was stuck in the B team last season after doing decently the season before, instead of going out on loan. But then it turned out he and a couple of other lads didn't go on loan because our manager instructed them to learn new positions and so wanted them to be closely watched.
I hope he pulls through, he has a great touch, but Jorge Jesus plays a 4-4-2; so unless he learns to be a fake winger, a support striker or a number 8 midfielder(the position he was instructed to take last season), he's going to have problems.

Renewed my season ticket for Sporting CP :) Think I probably asked you the same last season - how much did it cost you? Does it include European/domestic cup games?

This season they fucked us over and all season tickets include the European games and don't include the League Cup. It has never included the Portuguese Cup because it's organised by the FA instead of the League but we'll have cheaper tickets. 210 euros.

(would the call up have to take place during a transfer period, i guess is what i'm asking) either way, the amount they spent on him (and the not inconsiderable faith we have in him...) you'd think they'd really try and find a role for him? that said, football doesn't have to make sense! dearie me, that's not bad at all, compared to here! your average adult season ticket (at early bird rates) for dundee united is well over £300. the student season ticket isnae so bad, that's £145, but you're paying that to watch a championship/division 1 side. brechin city (league 1) season tix are £180, £90 for a student. i think a student/concession season ticket for the dundee stars ice hockey team is about £250 and regular adult at £380...without friendly/playoff games. thankfully the team has an association with my university so we quite often can get tickets for £5, which is nice/actually sustainable for my income!

i'm watching the MLS match just now between chicago and toronto and it got to me: how ace would it be to be at a league match, 8pm on a sunny saturday (or any) night? obvs, preferably with a pint.
why on earth do we not have summer football, especially in summer? early/late season midweek games in scotland are amongst the most pleasant experiences one can have; imagine having 3/4s of your season in t-shirt/light jacket weather. i mean scottish football has a lot of issues but i'm sure allowing us to have a pint and watch a competitive match in june or july is a more than acceptable place to start.

I used to have Toronto FC season tickets. Front row by the corner flag in the supporters end. It was a blast.
Most of the games are during the day and hot as fuck, but the night games were always an amazing treat.

celtic just lost 1-0 to the semi-professional - but champions of gibraltar so a real big deal - lincoln red imps in a first round qualification match for prospective qualification to the champions league. ...why don't scotland qualify for tournaments?! I used to have Toronto FC season tickets. Front row by the corner flag in the supporters end. It was a blast. Most of the games are during the day and hot as fuck, but the night games were always an amazing treat. aw maaaaaan, i can imagine! i really enjoy watching MLS matches over summer; it's football, it reminds me of scottish football, on until 4am...but naw, i'm not sure exactly what it is but the general ~vibe~ of the MLS and its fans i really really enjoy. i would *love* to take in an impacts home game one day. i don't know why we don't have summer football, solely from the perspective of getting folk in to games and because of just how fucking pleasant it is going to a football match without wearing 3-4 layers. let us have pints too. it doesn't even get dark here until 11pm, ffs, we need it! (plus maybe the football will be less dreich, like the weather!)

So my local team just decided not to renew their broadcasting contract with any networks and will now only stream their games online through their new "broadcasting channel", all for the price of approximately $200 dollars for the whole season.
Fuck that, it's even more expensive than the NFL pack for ALL of the teams matches.
I'll be catching the highlights of their games on Sportscenter from now on. I hope this plan crashes and burns.

(plus maybe the football will be less dreich, like the weather!) Super cool you like following / watching it. It's fairly good quality - i've heard comparable to England's The Championship league - and it's getting better. The fans are getting better too. I'm kind of upset I gave up my tickets but I started not enjoying the supporters group I was in and helped form. The people that were in it from the beginning weren't anymore and the people that replaced them were losers. Plus, there were just too many occasions where my brother and I were both on the fence with going and wouldn't go. But by tickets were SO CHEAP! I got the entire season (I think like 13 games) for $200. They were priced as "year 1" pricing because the team wasn't winning the last year I renewed so they dropped the price back to what they were in Year 1 (the corporate line was "we're looking at next season as a rebuilding year / fresh start, so we're pricing it as if we're a new team so season tickets are whatever you paid in year 1"). Definitely great for that reason. Oh and fuck the Impact!

Oh and fuck the Impact! aye, i mean over these summer months (tho tbf the scottish lower leagues kick off a few weeks from now) it's nice to have *something* to watch on TV. Liga MX is great for this too. it is very enjoyable football, however, definitely scottish premier league/championship level. that seems fair enough; sad that you felt you weren't enjoying it but when things get bigger, more folk join and are at different levels of commitment or attitude. jeezo that's super cheap, that must be what, £120 even with post-brexit £?!?! you may have seen the prices for tickets here for lower league and lower quality - in terms of on pitch and general presentation - football. of course, as you said, it was a rebuilding year so naturally the price won't stay low forever. to compare, dundee united had an abysmal year last season and were relegated to the scottish championship: "early bird" season tickets i think were frozen across the board but that's still over £300 for a regular season ticket. crazy. allez l'impact, allez! (there is not a sporting club i love more than the canadiens. i love them so much that my support for them extends to any other sports club from montréal )

Yeah, he's a pretty clever player. Just don't make the mistake of putting him hugging the touchline.
How much is that in euros? Isn't that the bid that was turned down?

Around 40m Euros I think. And yeah, it got turned down. Is he an attacking player? Not sure we need him unless we're moving someone else on.

Post by forgotten in space on Jul 27, 2016 10:00:23 GMT
Yeah, attacking midfielder. I guess you can play him at CM too but there you'd need two Ngolo Kantes to compensate his lack of aggressiveness.
We had a couple of instances last season where Adrien Silva was injured and João Mário played a midfield two with Williams Carvalho and it was a field day for the opposition.

(honestly i just want icedguardian to play, so that i can prove the impact are far superior to toronto fc :D)

Honestly, same thing happened to me first season I played. Forgot all about, logged in after months and a load of my players were injured. Lucas was a starting CM, which was pretty useless considering he's a walking yellow card and was playing in a team that shipped 40+ goals every season under Rodgers. Nowadays I stay on top of it, usually at work so I can avoid doing what I'm paid to do (only takes 10 mins a week max though).
