I would like to know how scary the Hammer horror movies generally are. As some of you may know I'm not a fan of jump scares but a big fan of creepy atmosphere and why not some paranoia too. I can take blood and one or two cut off limbs but I prefer if there's not too much body horror (as in intestines and stuff like that). I've seen one Hammer horror film so far, namely The Devil rides out. As far as I can remember there were very few scary scenes in that film but I definitely enjoyed it for the creepy vibe/atmosphere.
So, based on my preferences would you say that some more Hammer horror movies may be for me?

No clue what these movies are, but I agree with you on the body horror stuff. It's one of the reasons I can't watch horror movies.
But at the same time I have no problem with gore in war movies. What's wrong with me?

I loved these movies as a kid. Well that sounds promising! If you were able to watch them as a kid I might be able to watch them as an adult...I'm not taking it for granted though. : P

My favourite HH is The Curse of the Werewolf with Oliver Reed. I find most HH to be suspense type thrillers rather than horror in the conventional sense.

I can never watch Kate Bush without remembering when Wuthering Heights was out and sleeping over at my gran's with my cousin. We would be in our little girl nighties and running up and down the living room hollering 'Heathcliffe! It's me.. oh Cathy...' which ended in fits of giggles, spraying cocoa from laughing so much and my gran pretending to be annoyed Fun times <3

Sounds like something I could watch then. I had a memory of you watching these films, so I appreciate that you contributed. So would you say that that (more suspense type thriller than traditional horror) goes for The Mummy too (if you've seen it)?

Any specific suggestions from the rest of you of movies that you'd recommend (preferably based on my preferences mentioned in the OP)?

I would also recommend The Devil Rides Out (1968) and I've already told you about The Curse of the Werewolf (1961). These are the best 3 Hammer Horror films i've seen, they are indeed more suspense type thrillers rather than traditional horror.

I mentioned in the OP that The Devil rides out is the only hammer horror movie I've seen so far, and I liked that one. Will check out these other two!
