I'll say/ask it again. Wasn't it stated that S&M2 is just going to be the original setlist mostly with some newer stuff in some of the slots? I'm assuming they are gonna drop certain songs like Devil's Dance, -Human, and other songs they don't really play anymore, and put newer ones in there. But yeah, drop the hope for different old songs, cuz they clearly never gave any. Recorded live on September 6th & 8th, S&M² will see us joining forces once again with the San Francisco Symphony, led in part by legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas as he kicks off his final season. We'll be performing several tracks from the original '99 S&M release as well as symphonic versions of new songs released since then... Several doesn't necessarily mean mostly. I have hope, Metallica don't usually repeat themselves, I think they'll bust out at 3 classics now with orchestra. Orion to open the show Harvester and creeping Death somewhere in the set.

That sentence does not give any hope for different old songs than the original S&M. I mean, the sentence is pretty clear.

Yes, but why spoil a surprise and get everyones hopes up? They've stated in past interviews about how they had older songs scored and ready to go for 99 but dicided otherwise last minute. There must be a score for Unforgiven, Fade etc in existence.

Yeah I'm with Sig. I just can't see them pulling out things like Harvester or Creep. Very happy to be wrong here. Orion would be off the charts but my expectation is low

I can see them playing The Day That Never Comes, Halo on Fire, The Unforgiven, and maybe All Within My Hands as newer orchestrated numbers. If they bring back -Human, I'll be psyched.
I this is my crazy prediction would be the setlist roughly, minus how they set it up:
Ecstasy of Gold The Call of Ktulu Master of Puppets Halo on Fire The Thing That Should Not Be Fuel The Unforgiven The Day That Never Comes No Leaf Clover All Within My Hands Moth Into Flame Cyanide Nothing Else Matters Until It Sleeps For Whom The Bell Tolls -Human Wherever I May Roam The Outlaw Torn One Enter Sandman All Nightmare Long

99.9% never gonna happen, but imagine how good the acoustic version of Disposable Heroes could sound backed by the symphony.

I'd rather hear the original DH with an orchestra. I'd rather hear their songs that have classic influence in them with an orchestra.

Well he puts ride on some occasions like on those acoustic charity gigs from recent years, maybe S&M will be special enough to bring it back too IF they keep Bleeding Me in the set, he's gonna have to use a ride, the song's quiet parts would sound bad otherwise, even lightly tapping the hi hat wouldn't cut it. He didn't in 2011, and it was awful. The last time he actually had a ride in his setup outside of the acoustic gigs was in 2008 if I'm not mistaken, when they played Bleeding Me and I think Until It Sleeps once or twice, so I'm not feeling very confident. Plus, either way, I think Bleeding Me is definitely getting replaced by a newer song. Unlike Outlaw they haven't teased it or played it anywhere recently and there's plenty of songs that could replace it, mood-wise. It's kind of a shame because I'll bet songs like Fuel and The Memory Remains that absolutely don't benefit from the orchestra will stick around solely because they don't have to relearn them.

Can't blame them really. We're barely in a better position here now than we were this time last year. The rest of the world has moved on with vaccinations and are opening back up, we're still going into strict lockdowns whenever a handful of cases pop up.
They wouldn't be allowed to have a concert here, and if they could, it'd be high risk and crowds would be way lower than normal - there'd be no upside for them at all.

I think so. Hardwired will be years old and it would be silly to tour an old album simply because we were unfortunately missed. Aussie tour was also cancelled due to Cliffs accident way back in 86, but we never got a puppets tour.... everything must move forward

From a business perspective, I think they would hold out the new album until proper touring and promotion is reestablished. A few festivals here and there, but no point releasing the new album until they can make the most money to make up for 2 years of lost revenue.

Depending on what their schedule looks like for the rest of the year, I can see them finishing an album Spring of 2022 and releasing it in the Fall as a way to book another world tour. But that's also presumptive to assume they've made decent progress so far. If they haven't, I doubt we'll see a new album until 2024 earliest unfortunately.

They could, given the success and technology used for the Helping Hands show last fall, debut a new album live from HQ with a few staples in the set, charge $50 a pop to live stream the show and receive a digital copy of the show and new album afterwards, or an extra $10 to have a physical copy delivered. Minimum 500,000 digital tickets would be sold worldwide, it's fucking Metallica debuting a new album. 500,000 x $50 = $25,000,000 revenue. That's $5,000,000 each, plus an extra $5,000,000 for production, staff etc.

But nothing will successfully take the place of a big tour promoting a new release.
