Okay, so I think I got as close to what I wanted as possible. I was at Metallica's gig in Finland last night, and the setlist only had 6/18 songs from the 80s - everything else was stuff from the 90s onwards! It was a great fucking concert, and there were a lot of songs I hadn't heard that often live - and two that I'd never heard before (Revenge and Spit). Other notes: Kirk played really well, the video screens and the animations, effects and whatnot were awesome, pyros were super cool, and James was funnier than usual. All in all, totally worth it once more!
The setlist was:
1. Hardwired 2. The Memory Remains 3. Disposable Heroes 4. The God that Failed 5. The Unforgiven 6. Here Comes Revenge 7. Moth Into Flame 8. Sad but True 9. No Leaf Clover 10. Frantic 11. One 12. Master of Puppets 13. For Whom the Bell Tolls 14. Creeping Death 15. Seek & Destroy 16. Spit Out the Bone 17. Nothing Else Matters 18. Enter Sandman
EDIT: Extra note. Even though Hardwired is still one of my all-time favorite songs from Metallica and I love it to death, I've now seen it twice live, and... Oh boy do they suck at playing it live. It's been a total mess both times.

When I saw them play hardwired, it was spot on and a hard kick to balls.
Sounds like you had blast. That is a really cool set.
How was Memory in the second slot? Better than Atlas I imagine.

They've been putting Memory in at #2 for a few shows now.
If Hardwired is a mess why open with it?

Guess I've had bad luck with Hardwired then. But yeah, I really had a blast. The setlist was really surprising, and definitely in a good way. As you can see, among the first 10 songs of the concert, there's only ONE 80s song, and even then it's a deeper cut in Disposable Heroes. I love it. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the 80s stuff, but it's just that I've now seen Metallica 8 times, and it's really refreshing to see more of the "newer" stuff.
Memory was fine in the second slot - it was somewhat of a surprise to me, and a lot of other people, too. I've always liked it, and the new outro thing they've put together is cool. But I would'nt have complained if they'd gone with Atlas instead.
Also, Ghost was fan-fucking-tastic as the opener, I just adore them. There's seven Nameless Ghouls nowadays, which looks kinda cool. And Cardinal Copia is such a suave motherfucker. Ghost's setlist: 1. Ashes 2. Rats 3. Absolution 4. Ritual 5. From the Pinnacle to the Pit 6. Faith 7. Cirice 8. Miasma (with Papa Nihil on saxophone)
9. Year Zero 10. Mummy Dust 11. Dance Macabre 12. Square Hammer
If Hardwired is a mess why open with it?
I don't know. It seems like such a natural selection as an opener, and the intro tape before it is great at building tension, but for me, it just hasn't worked. Maybe it's bad luck, but both times I've seen them open with it, the guitars have sounded bad and mushy as hell and overall it kinda seems like it's a bit too much for them. Honestly, I think it's too fast for them to play live. They just can't keep up with it, and it kinda falls apart. It's a damn shame, really.

Their live guitar tone for fast alt picking has always been hit or miss. (Lars' timing doesn't help) The guitar tone isn't great for fast picking on the album either. Het chose a tone on HWTSD that is good for power chords, not fast palm mute picking.

The two ghoulettes are so fierce. <3 ...And Yes, Cardinal Copia is indeed a real suave motherfucker. He sure can tickle some taints.

I would have thought the SnakePit / M&G contests for the Australian leg would have been announced by now
Any idea, how far out from the tourdates you would expect these to be up?

When are the shows? Usually it's a few weeks before, maybe a month.

They actually played it. Never would have guessed that they would put it on the stadium set. I've always thought that this is a smaller venue song.

Almost certainly. They played DAY recently too, and I thought the same thing

Well I guess that's a lock for Ktulu for S&M2. I would've liked to hear Orion with an orchestra, but Ktulu with Rob on bass is still a damn fine experience so I can't really complain. I only wish Lars would dig out the ride for the middle section because it creates much better dynamics than that awful china spam.

Well he puts ride on some occasions like on those acoustic charity gigs from recent years, maybe S&M will be special enough to bring it back too

I'll say/ask it again. Wasn't it stated that S&M2 is just going to be the original setlist mostly with some newer stuff in some of the slots? I'm assuming they are gonna drop certain songs like Devil's Dance, -Human, and other songs they don't really play anymore, and put newer ones in there. But yeah, drop the hope for different old songs, cuz they clearly never gave any.

Well he puts ride on some occasions like on those acoustic charity gigs from recent years, maybe S&M will be special enough to bring it back too IF they keep Bleeding Me in the set, he's gonna have to use a ride, the song's quiet parts would sound bad otherwise, even lightly tapping the hi hat wouldn't cut it.
