Is it faithful to the novel? I would argue more so than that abomination of a miniseries was. I can see your point of view if you saw it after Nicholson started playing himself playing other characters, but at the time, and still is to me, a top 20 horror film. I am highly biased, Kubrick is my fav director. It isn't, no. It's why King didn't like it very much and what prompted him to write the miniseries years later. Kubrick took elements but it was very much his version of the Shining. What it's lacking is quite a bit of backstory regarding Jack's drinking and what led up to them being at the hotel. Whilst you could say it's extraneous, it does provide a deeper understanding of his descent into madness and how the hotel can take such a hold of his mind. The miniseries is actually ok. If you look past the fact that it is pretty dated, visually, the story feels much more satisfying and coherent. The film is a great exercise in tension. The miniseries a good exploration of addiction and how that can pave the way for darker, more evil things. Always thought Kubrick was a direct heir to the Hitchcock throne.

Glad to see Blair Witch 2 getting some love from Big Al. It's underrated. If you ignore the fact that they tried to tie it to BWP, it's a really decent, scary film.
My picks for Halloween viewing:
The Exorcist It Follows Halloween Nightmare on Elm St (the original, duh) BWP 1&2 The Thing [REC] The Shining The Last Broadcast The Omen R-Point Ringu trilogy The Amityville Horror Paranormal Activity The Mist Psycho Das Experiment Session 9 Jacob's Ladder

Went on a Blu Ray Halloween spending spree yesterday, now I have the cinema sound bar thingy, I need to make this a good one.
Purchased Sleepy Hollow Dawn of the Dead (unrated director cut - remake) Land of the Dead What we do in the Shadows This is the End Dog House Zombieland Pirates of the Caribbean - cause it's kind of in keeping - and it's sound on Blu Ray is supposed to be in the top ten.
I'm going to start rolling out this weekend, my Halloween list a few pages back still stands.
PS @jaysee Book of Shadows is a great little movie!

I haven't been overly impressed with some adaptations of Stephen King books namely The Shining, Salem's Lot and Pet Semetary. I did however like Misery, IT and The Green Mile.

Hounds of love. More of a thriller than horror though maybe. Any Australians in here who've heard of it (it's an Australian movie and takes place in Australia)?

What are some of the best suspense/ horror movies you've seen lately?
My Friend Jeffrey -- damn good; the actor playing Dahmer should be given an Oscar.
The Wolves at the Door -- great soundtrack.

Movies on serial killers don't really work though in experience, an A&E documentary is usually good enough.
