Sigur Ros - Valtari I haven't listened to this in a while and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more this time than last. It's a lot slower and moodier than their other releases, but it's got some gems. Really great. I wrote this before. It was my go to album when I cross the bosphorus on a boat every morning to work about 2 summers ago. Magical. I missed Sigur ros concert this summer, it was on my bdays weekend. I never saw them live. It was a misse opportunity. I can totally see how that album would be perfect for that setting. Same thing as ( ). I often find that album is better to listen to when it's slightly foggy outside, but not dark. Just hazy. Like I said, I enjoyed that album when it first came out, but now i really like it. It's a lot better than I thought. And that sucks you missed Sigur Ros. They're coming back to Toronto in September but the tickets are really expensive (well over $150 when first released) and I've already seen them half a dozen times for 50% less (at least) that I couldn't justify the price. But the first tickets that were released were via their website in a weird "fan experience" so perhaps closer to the show regular tickets will come out that will be cheaper. Who knows. - - - - - - - - - Black Crown Initiate - Selves We Cannot ForgiveFinally got my tasty splatter LP copy of this in the mail and even after 2 spins, this album has grown on me. It didn't grab me right away when they released the first few songs pre-release but it plays great as a full album. Ben Frost - A U R O R AGot this for a crazy cheap price at a great record store that is dangerously too close to my house. Seriously, I "stop by" far too often and each time leave with at least 2 records (last time it was 4, two of which were Glenn Gould multi LP box sets but they were cheap so that's OK , right?) Anyway, another great release from Ben Frost. Atmospheric as fvck, which is expected! Evergrey - The Storm WithinDon't know about this one. Could be like the last that has some solid songs (or at least one great song - "The Grand Collapse") and a bunch of mediocre boring songs. Needs a few more listens but that first song zzzzzzzzzz.

i endorse the above post so hard you have no fucking clue.
the last record i listened to wassss:
suzanne ciani/c-lone (or clone, spotify gave the artist as c-lone) - logo presentation reel 1985 (instrumentals)/octobred
this one is fun and odd. 24 tracks over 31 minutes, the first 2/3rds (song wise) is a portfolio of jingles/tracks the synth/experimental HERO made for advertisers in the mid-'80s. ads for coke, AT&T and atari amongst others feature. stripped of their context, the tracks stand up on their own as pleasing little synth pieces. kitsch af but what else would you expect. the last few tracks, c-lone, take you to space and back. they are fun. idk what or who "octobred" is but i enjoyed the story that the told. this is fun, give it a whirl.

Vektor - Terminal Redux
Ok, so I usually don't like modern thrash metal but this is the best metal album I've heard this year and it's the most original thrash album in years.
I got to see them play the entire album live on Tuesday and they put on a great show too.

Everyone was raving about that Vektor album so I listened to it but it didn't do much for me.
Revocation - Great Is Our Sin
This was pretty good. I especially like this song:

Been on a huge Breaking Benjamin kick lately, haven't listened to their earlier stuff, listened to the album "We Are Not Alone" and gotta say, has some good songs on it. Believe, Breakdown, Away are all really strong hits from it.
Also, Iron Maiden has made it more frequently into my listening rotation, and I forgot how awesome some of their stuff was in general. Powerslave has always been my favorite album by them, but Piece of Mind and Book of Souls are both up there too.

I have a quick question to fellow Swedes here. What does `Håkan` mean? I know it is a common name but don't know the actual meaning in Swedish if ithas one. It means conqueror in Turkish.
-
Haken - Aquarius
The album that made me a Haken fan.
Death Magnetic
Well I like it sincethe beginning but I didn2t enjoy itmuch this time. It just felt too long.
PAin of Salvation -Remedy Lane
Masterpiece.
Earthside - A Dream in Static
One of the best modern prog metal albums. I keep coming back to this album and still get impressed everytime.

So the origins are possibly the same. Cool.

Insomnium - Winter's Gate
Probably going to take a few listens to really absorb it and tell how I feel about it, which was expected. I really enjoyed the ride though. Knee-jerk impression is that I think I like it more than Shadows of the Dying Sun.

Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine For my money, this is the best Exodus album. I absolutely loved Rob Dukes as the vocalist, and the first two songs here (Raze and Deathamphetamine) are SO GOOD.

Insomnium - Winter's Gate
Let me just say this is the album I keep coming back to for the last few days. The leads, the melodies, passages, riffs and drums and everything else are so tasteful. I would never ever imagine liking such an extreme metal album this much. 10/10

The album I'm currently stuck on though is a must to check out if you like your prog and psychedelic maaaaan....Heavy Metal Fruit by Motorpsycho. Only stopped listening since Moth came out
Love this opener
