Embreach - The World that We Have Lost Solid atmospheric prog metal album right here, with a modern sound. Quite a few traces of recent prog greats can be spotted, but it's mostly good taste. The closer in particular (embedded) is a brilliant track.

The Drums - Summertime! (EP)
nae an album but this thread needs CONTENT. i listened to this 4 times last night, thrice on semi-half cut walks in two towns and once on a bus. it was raining and warm. sad lad indie pop vibes a-go-go here and listening was very cathartic (especially in one of the towns i got played in b/c memories and stuff); "don't be a jerk, jonny" and "make you mine" stuck out for the poignancy but it's all good and jangly and sad and ultimately that's what pop, rock and country music ought to be.

Swans - The Glowing Man
It's taken me a few days to fully absorb it, since it's another nearly-impenetrable 2-hour monstrosity like their last two records, but I love it now. Great album. This whole trilogy is such an amazing piece of work.

Baroness - PurpleAwesome, much better than Green / Yellow albums, and maybe just as good as Blue. I read James Hetfield thought this was a great album and after listening I wouldn't be upset if the new Metallica album borrows a few ideas from it. KISS - KillersCompilation with 4 new songs (for the time). Bought this mainly to fill in the gap in the collection but it does bring back some old great childhood memories. Megadeth - Peace SellsRemastered version. Know the album from way back, but never bought the disc. Don't know if I care enough that stuff was re-recorded. Will search out a cheap copy of the first album now because again its kinda cool revisiting these old albums. Opeth - Still Life
Good album but not my favourite from them. I think I prefer the later Opeth these days. Jake Bugg - On My One
Been waiting to hear what he does next and was not disappointed with album #3. A few songs were a style I wouldn't have thought he would experiment with. Couple of instant classics in there though and if more people heard it, there is a clear big hit in here I think with "Love, Hope and Misery" Beastmaker - Lusus NaturaeStoner Sabbath vibe all the way. Love it. "We only drink human blood. You better run for your life"

what a beautiful cover art! I'll definately check this.
-
Limp Bizkit - Gold Cobra: It started with a few tunes, with rather decent riffs and grooves. I thought OK, this may not be the disaster I thought it would be. But it proved me wrong. 4.5/10
Limp Bizkit - Three Dollars Bill Yall: Good album. It was original. It was punchy. It was groovy and it was aggressive. 8.5/10
Megadeth - Dystopia: Very good album. An album I would gladly describe as a solid return to form. 8.5/10

Sigur Ros - Valtari
I haven't listened to this in a while and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more this time than last. It's a lot slower and moodier than their other releases, but it's got some gems. Really great.

Converge - You Fail Me This is the remixed version they just put out, definitely a lot punchier than the album was originally.
At The Drive In - Relationship of Command I'm a fan of The Mars Volta (their first two albums especially) but never really checked out ATDI so bought this on a whim. It's a pretty great album.

listened to too much lately to go though it aw but tl'dr: talking heads are phenomenal//toro y moi is hit and miss but every release has 2-3 fucking belters//hüsker dü, the replacements and beach slang are ultimate emo indie angst baes.
what i will give a wee hingmy off tho is this:
burial - street halo/kindred
two cracking EPs released 2011/2012: so much so that i splashed and got them both on 12" and ordered the japan-only combined CD ($wag) because i needed to have this music available on all devices. i'm not sure he's doing much that could be considered revolutionary here but dammit if over these 6 songs does he not hit it out of the fucking part. the three tracks on kindred especially, he brings his sound into a much warmer place - almost to the dancefloor - particularly on 'loner' and the title track. 'ashtray wasp' idk if i can explain other than a wall of skitterish beats and warm arpeggios over warm arpeggios building into mogwai/godspeed you!...esque walls of sound that start pulsing as if from a soundsystem speaker. mood wise, as you would expect with burial, gloomy//dingy/humid//stifling summer nights rly go well with this piece.
i'm listening to it now w/ rly shitty headphones and rly feeling the bass and vibe on this release, fucking psyched the next time i get a free house so i can get this on the record player (no decent speaker again tho </3)/get to someone's place w/ the good speaker so i can turn this up 'cause awwwww man, it's killer/ (also i'm p. sure there's a sample from gran turismo 4...i believe from the licence centre(?) comprising the beat for the track 'kindred'. this is not outwith burial remit or history, such a sample)

Sigur Ros - Valtari I haven't listened to this in a while and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more this time than last. It's a lot slower and moodier than their other releases, but it's got some gems. Really great. I wrote this before. It was my go to album when I cross the bosphorus on a boat every morning to work about 2 summers ago. Magical. I missed Sigur ros concert this summer, it was on my bdays weekend. I never saw them live. It was a misse opportunity. - I've never been a massive Korn fan but ı do love Korn and if you wer elistening to metal or getting into metal in your teen years, it was pretty hard to avoid Korn. I've always had favourite Korn songs but never really a fan of them considering the hype they got. But I admit they are a good band when you need some aggression, some instruments to feel discharged. Simple, energetic, groovy. So I decided to give a listen to their discography after all these years.
Issues: Very good. Their raw aggression was very unique at the time. Life is Peachy: Same can be said about this. See You on the Other Side: Few good songs. Also it feels like a very softened version of Korn. Not bad. But obviously lacking the aggression they delivered before. Take a Look in the Mirror: This was surprisingly better than I remember. As far as I know, fans didn't like this much at first. But it definately is not worse than some of the following albusm they released. At least the signature bass and groove are still there. Untitled: While not as shocking and raw as before, certainly a nod to earlier albums. I liked it. At least half of it, which is good enough. A bit more melodic than before. Untouchables: Now this is an album I remember well. I thought this was very unique at the time. Even for Korn. I thought the atmosphere was very dark adn soundwise it was almost scary. A definately well thought effort. the Paradigm Shift: I don't know how it was percieved by the real fans. It's heavy and melodic but it lacks the atmosphere and aggression I would attribute to korn. I suppose it was a return to form with Head's presence. Korn III Remember Who You Are: Ok, not this is supposed to be that return to roots album, right? It does sound heavy. It does feature the signature bass. But something is missing. It feels forced. Certaintly, there are few good songs. But it does not sound fresh anymore. It is no longer the early 2000s, I suppose. Ray Luzier is a fantastic drummer, though. The drum sound is bad but I think he is the right choice for Korn. I love watching him play. Weak production. The Path of Totality: The idea is very interesting. But I'm not a dub step listener. This is more of a dubstep/electronica album than a Korn album. I'll reserve judgement here. It's just not mything. I'm sure at the right moment one of these songs may actually be very good. Follow the Leader: This is great. It was very unique at the time. Korn were 'that' band that changed the heavy music. For some reason, I associate this album, self titled, Life is Peachy and Issues with the Spawn animated series. These albums had that unique, dark atmosphere that made Korn very special to their fans. Selftitled: If an album starts with 'Blind', you expect nothing but raw aggression and heavyness. And it delivers. What a way to start a career. In all of these albums, I found songs that are very good. But after a while, it gets repetitive. I mean there is a song you find very cool then few minutes later, there is another song which is very similar but a bit weaker. This is also how I feel if I go to a Korn show. Great band. But it just gets repetitive to me. Earlier album were great if you like that kind of stuff. But the latter albums usually have great ideas turning into not so interesting songs. I admit they did something never before seen and they were very successful at it. I also think Jon Davis is a hell of a vocalist. He was successful in creating his own sound and style. I found their new song quite decent. I just hope they will deliver their best album since Untouchables.

Marilyn Manson - The Pale Emperor
Wow! Was quite surprised at how great this record is. I just needed some background tunes last night for "Fun Time" and randomly qued it up. It sounds fantastic. Sounds a lot like old Alice Cooper rockish kind of stuff mixed with modern elements.
Ghost - Infestissumam
Just an amazing album, going to see them in November, can't wait.

Tarja - The Shadow SelfI thought Colours in the Dark was a great album, and this is no different. Lots of catchy songs with memorable hooks. Iron Maiden - The Final FrontierWell, I sort of listened to this. I made a playlist with a slightly rejigged song order, cutting the "Satellite 15" intro, "Isle of Avalon" and "The Man Who Would Be King". Think it flows much better when the second half isn't just long songs (my tracklist below). The Final Frontier El Dorado The Talisman Mother of Mercy Coming Home Starblind The Alchemist When the Wild Wind Blows

Opeth - Pale Communion:
It'sa good album. Moon above, Sun Below is one of the best Opeth songs ever. But it lacks the character that Heritage has. It's just a good prog rock album. That's about it. Also I really don't like Mikael's singing on this album.
Iced Earth - Live at Ancient Kourion.
Stu Block is the best vocal fit IE fans could hope for. Great singer. It's a very good selection of old and new IE songs.
