The Flashbulb - Our Simulacra This was a bit of a grower but man has it grown. Such a fantastic album. Complex, groovy, moving, mind-bending. Typical Flashbulb.
Philip Jeck - Cardinal I've heard bits and pieces of Jeck's stuff before but never really sat down and listened. Cardinal is amazing. If you're a fan of ambient music, do yourself a favour and give it a listen. It's not full of lush pads and swelly synths. It's much more textured than that. Jeck uses turntables and vinyl a lot, and you get that old crackly vibe running through but he arranges his loops and sections so well.
Sarah Davachi - Cantus, Descant Definitely one of my favourites this year. Maybe my favourite if I had to pick one. Davachi recorded this in various places around the world using organs and other acoustic instruments. Some extremely old. Technically this is a very basic album and that's kind of the point. She's all about slowly evolving tones, hearing complexity in seemingly simple sounds. I just think it's beautiful.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. I like many Weezer songs but I haven't really checked out their albums in full before but yeah, it was fun listening to this one.

Manowar - The kingdom of steel (The very best of)
I remembered Battle Hymn from my youth. The other songs are also pretty damn good (not all of them but most).

pixies -doolittle and coldplay - viva la vida or death and all his friends
two great records, two records that are absolutely essential for bass players to learn our fucking places and how there's no need to get fancy. one of these is probably still sorely underrated and the other an all time classic, guess which.
kanye west - JESUS IS KING
jesus is king. simply fantastic. an beautiful, emotional devotional album.
roddy woomble - my secret is my silence
fìor dheagh

I could listen to the bass + drums in Gouge away for like forever.
Edit: Had to edit my last post here, 'cause it looked a bit more funny if Antonoff is looking down on Phoebe while she's looking up at him.

Spun some records on the weekend.
Duane Eddy compilation Grease Soundtrack The Song remains the Same (it got loud about here) Too Fast for Love And the 3 singles from Metclub (one is a bit warped, needed more weight to keep needle engaged...was thinking about telling them but its already a replacement from a different issue)

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu
Not as good as I had hoped. Not as good as Book of souls. Steve Harris' formula for epics have been getting pretty tedious for quite some time now, and this album continues that trend...I mean, none of those epics are bad, and a few are great, but overall most of them are plodding, too samey in song structure, feel quite uninspired melodically and are just too damn long for their own good. Having said that...My favorite tracks on first listen were The writing on the wall, The time machine and Hell on earth. I enjoyed the first 2 minutes of Lost in a lost world as well.

such a great album, each song is a good one. I think I like it better than the previous album as there are 2 tracks on that one that I don't really care for.

For me the best songs on Imploding the mirage are better than the best ones on Pressure machine, but as a whole Pressure machine is a more even album than Imploding the mirage.

Between The Buried And Me - Colors II
Based on the first two listens...underwhelming so far, there's no catchy choruses nor guitar leads.

I agree. songs like My Own Soul's Warning, Dying Breed and Lightning Fields are imo better than any on Pressure Machine but overall Pressure Machine is good as a whole. I don't care for When The Dreams Run Dry and Running Towards A Place, both of those songs just don't stand up against the other songs on Imploding The Mirage. just my opinion though

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu
It's definately more focused than The Book of Souls for me. I liked it a lot. I'd give it a 8.5 /10 Terrible production.
Leprous - Aphelion
Great album for long road trips in the night. Very different than what they have done so far. I give credit for Einar Solberg and the band for pushing their musical boundaries with each album. But it is also safe to say Leprous are becoming a showcase for Einar Solberg's vocals and Baard Kolstad's drumming. Not that this is bad...
Opeth - Heritage
This one is still my favourite 'new' Opeth album.
Pearl Jam - Vs.
Well, I'm not the biggest expert on PJ but I like some of their songs a lot. Probably not on par with Ten but it is still considered as a classic, right? Good album.
Mastodon - Medium Rarities
I just wanted to warm up for the new album. It features some good songs for sure.

Between The Buried And Me - Colors II Based on the first two listens...underwhelming so far, there's no catchy choruses nor guitar leads. So that was only on Never Seen/Future Shock, the "chorus" and the lead playing under it is very average. But overall maybe I focused on the negatives too much, really digging the album now, lots of "I can't believe they pulled that off" videogame details.
