Fela Kuti - GentlemanFirst time listening to Fela Kuti. Very cool! Will definitely be listening to more. Steve Tibbetts - Exploded ViewVery cool jazz/world fusion type thing. I've listened to a bit of his stuff before, but this was different. I really like it. Mamady Keita & Famoudou Konate - HamanahReally been digging African drumming lately. I'm using it to practise bass along to in order to improve my rhythm and feel, which is really effective, but the music is also just awesome. Buy me my own and I'll stop Tell me what you can do with those pretty lips and suggest your price... You know damn well what these pretty lips can do.

I recently bought my first bass guitar. I don't have a bass amp yet though, just been playing it on a guitar amp. Any advice on a good amp to get just for bedroom use? I bought my wife (it's her bass but she never plays it) an Ampeg BA-108. They're around $200 and sound great. That ain't gonna be good enough for me. However I might get one of these Ampeg Micro VR stacks. Overkill for bedroom playing probably but they look killer. $1300

Pain of Salvation - Panther
It's a pretty good album. Very different than the previous album, and in fact, only reminiscient of Road Salts and a little bit of Scarsick at times. It is definately not on the same level of Remedy Lane, BE or the Perfect Element but then again who was expecting it to be? Especially after the 3 songs they released...
None of the songs are particularly mindblowing with the exception of Icon. But none of the songs are mediocre either...they all flow well into each other. I have many favourite moments throughout the album. Unfuture, Wait, Species, Icon and Restless Boy are the stand out tracks for me...Restless Boy adds a good layer to the album. The song itself is like a drumming exercise but that heavyness is much needed in the album.
I also loved the mini passage 'Fur'.
This album is very vocals and keyboard oriented but still Leo Margarit's drumming is awesome. He shines throughout the album...I thought the same for Road Salt albums too. The beginning riff or 'Species' is very late Opeth-esque but the song itself is quite southern rock sounding... Sadly the album is not very guitar driven.
I'd give it a solid 8.5 / 10 after the first 3 listens. Let me see if it will grow more on me or lose steam...

Leprous - Malina
I can't even understand why I did not get into this initially. It is one of my favourite Leprous albums, only surpassed by Tall Poppy Syndrome. At first I only like a few songs, Mirage being the best one (it still is for me). It is their most refined, catchy and focused album as far as I'm concerned.
And Baard Kolstad delivers it as usual. Such a brilliant drummer he is...

At first I only liked a few songs, Mirage being the best one (it still is for me) but now all of them are exceptionally good for me. It is their most refined, catchy and focused album as far as I'm concerned. And Baard Kolstad delivers it as usual. Such a brilliant drummer he is... I know it's not from Malina, but this is one of the best drum playthroughs I've seen: His drum playthrough videos are always very entertaining. I love his playing since the days he was uploading videos titled 'best street drummer in Norway' long before the Leprous days. His energy&creativity are what sets him apart from others. By the way, that song is awesome. I had a nice little chat with him after one of their İstanbul concerts few years ago. Cool guy. Also enjoys being the center of attention in his own right...after another İstanbul gig, people were all on him, surrounded him in a circle and he looked very happy. Kind of stealing Einar's -who ise by the way another amazing musician - star light in a way:)

Busted out some Anthrax with Spreading The Disease this past week. Was a formative ‘Thrax album for me as a kid so nice to dig back in to it after so long. Prompted by all the 30th anniversary of Persistence of Time promo I’ve been seeing of late. Which reminds me that I should really listen to that album too. Never have it a spin back in the day: Disease, Among and Euphoria was all I needed.

First of September and a chill in the air this morning, so went to work with October Rust on. that's for November, for me... I'm not a big fan but I do love some of their songs and the atmosphere they created. - Threshold - Clone one of their older albums. This is heavier than your usual Threshold. Feels like Metallica-esque guitars combined with DT's aproach with a bit of an older Fates Warning thrown in. Very good album. You can hear they haven't created their trademark sound&structure yet but they were very close to it. Threshold - For the Journey Possibly one their best albums. I was a bit biased when they released this because March of Progress (the previous album) is the best they have ever done and I was a bit dissapointed (which was not fair to be honest) at first. But I'm wrong. this one is a very good album.

I wasn't all that taken with In The Passing Light of Day, although I didn't give it much time to grow. But I really enjoyed my first listen of Panther. I agree there aren't really any incredible tracks for me so far, but every track seems really good. This may end up being the best thing PoS has done since BE for me. Not that I didn't enjoy the Road Salts or Scarsick either, just that this one feels a little better. I'm also one of those rare fans it seems who loves BE. Along with Remedy Lane I think it's one of the best things PoS have done. Edit: I forgot about the Linoleum EP. I love that EP. If You Wait and Gone are incredible tracks.

From the new album, Wait, Unfuture and Icon are my favourites at the moment.

Devin Townsend Project - Ki
I love this album. Probably one of the most unique works he has ever done.
King Crimson - The Night Watch
Great live compilation. It's King Crimson after all, you can't expect anything less than amazing.
King Crimson - Starless&Bible Black
9/10
Metallica - S&M2
There isa very casual feeling about this concert, as opposed to the first S&M. I really liked this when I saw it in the cinema.
Rainbow - Rising
Classic.
Caligula's Horse - Rise Radiant
This one is good, I'm telling you.

Jaga Jazzist - Pyramid Awesome album. These guys haven't released a bad one yet. One of the best of the year for me so far.
Billy Martin - Meshes Very dense but very cool. Best known as the drummer from Medeski, Martin & Wood, but has since created some very different music. This is more an experimental chamber orchestra type thing with drums, centred around graphic scores being the basis for improvisation.
Gregory Porter - All Rise Soul/jazz/gospel deal. It's a bit too long considering half the tracks sound quite similar. I've only given it one spin to be fair though. And when it's good it's oh so good.
Intronaut - Fluid Existential Inversions I'm not super familiar with this band's output. I've listened to one or two of their albums a while ago and enjoyed them. This new one is actually really good too. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be listening again.

I've missed Jaga Jazzist concert the last time.
King Diamond - Abigail
10/10
The riffs, solos, tempos, atmosphere everything is top notch. The new bands don't know "how to do" this kind of a metal album. They just can't do it as good.

Just started listening to Finntroll's new album "Vredesvävd", out today. The intro track is goddamn epic.
EDIT: The whole album is pretty damn good! It's very much what you'd expect from Finntroll, but their formula is so good there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
