I never understood the importance of track sequence. I always play my cds at 'random'. To kind of build a story or just to make the listening experience of an album as exciting as possible all the way through by playing with dynamics (for example not too many fast and loud songs in a row or the same with slower songs). I would say that movies work in a similar way. To find a balance and keep that balance throughout the album or the movie, by sometimes slowing down the tempo/stripping back the arrangement and sometimes speeding it up/making it fuller. It kind of is an art in itself I would say. I never understood the importance of track sequence. I always play my cds at 'random'.
Yep, I think like LM - track sequence is part of the creative process of making the album to me.
Before CDs, having a strong second opener for the B-side was part of getting the listener back on board. (not so relevant with Hardwired as it is spread across two LPs, much like how the old Justice album was released back in the day).
I've just always enjoyed the experience from Track 1 to the end.
I can't get onboard with people who read the ending of the book to decide if they will read it either It's just music to me People who read the ending to decide wether to buy or not are just weird.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Right in the middle of their peak, third album of the big first 5
ZZTop - The Best of Good mix of their early shit, this is the best ZZ, it got weird in the early 80s

anathema - distant satellites
i hadn't listened to anathema for the longest time, and i don't think i have ever listened to this record, so i went with distant satellites. terrific record. at times it's a bit overwrought but also at the risk of sounding overwrought myself i think it's one of the best rock/pop records of the 2010s, easily. gets a big ol' 9.5/10 on the bartman scale.

Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel I get a feeling that Bartman is a fan of this. I liked 5 out of 11 songs, so not too bad! hahahaha, i'm guilty! big fan of this band and record! what songs did you like?
they have a new single out, with a new album coming in july. i think this might be my favourite song of theirs yet:
speaking of post-punk music from ireland, girl band has been a band i have been enjoying a fair bit lately. it might just be the constant anxiety of our present moment speaking to me, maybe it's just my love for awful noise but they've been on heavy rotation at casa bart!
(first jam i have after rona, i AM using a paperweight as a slide for my bass)

I'm with forgotten in space on this one The song 'Anathema' is phenomenal and I love the Lost Song(s) and Ariel.

King Crimson - Red (30th Anniv) Cool album, love the opener, probably second to my favourite, Discipline.
Black Sabbath - Vol 4 Another one of their classic first 5, has a lot of my most favourite Sabbath songs, shame about that FX bit in there but it is what it is and they probably were all wasted thinking how trippy it all was.
Bon Jovi - New Jersey Been a long time between listens for this album. I always thought it was a decent follow up to the big one they did with a few cool songs in there, Blood on Blood probably being the high point.
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers Another listen for this one, will never tire of this album. Not a bad track on it, was pretty cool this classic line up managed to knock this one out.
Judas Priest - Redeemers of Souls Priest have put out 2 killer albums since KK left. This one and Firepower are amazing for a band moving into their 50th year.

yellow swans - going placesi seem to recall it was one of you metbb lot that turned me onto this record (i want to say that it was SeDelby although it might have been gira? or someone else?) i last listened to this record some 7 or 8 years ago having been big into it for a while and truthfully it had been completely forgotten about until earlier today when it rushed back to me. a really strong noise record, one of the first true noise records i really got into. a bit fearsome at times and in total contras to the beautiful sunny day that was outside but good stuff. also to reply to jorn and forgotten in space, weather systems is in fact even better than distant satellites. staggeringly good album!

Hendrix - Both Sides of the Sky Excellent release to finish off the posthumous trilogy. Cant stop playing Cherokee Mist.
King Crimson - Red Really like this album, still prefer Discipline over this one but this has the better opening track.

lana del rey - norman fucking rockwell
probably my album of 2019? it's still great/the record i remember most vividly and fondly anyway. really fucking good. "venice bitch" one of the tracks of the 2010s imo - it's like sad tumblr/sylvia plath aesthetics met codeine and the lonesome crowded west-era modest mouse. the record is great, lana is great and i look forward to listening to her poetry comp.
fontaines d.c. - a hero's death
just a fucking class record. fierce post-punk that isn't doing anything but is doesn't necessarily have to: "televised mind" is a bit kasabian meets the fall for my liking but it's kasabian on a good day so it gets a pass. "i don't belong" is a great, brooding tune, the final song "no" is lovely, in between it's all the fall and gang of four channeled through the stones, the velvets and country teasers. a right hoot.
I think that would have been me. I definitely remember the album. I get reminded of it every so often and keep meaning to go back and listen, which I haven't in a while. Great stuff though. aha! well, thank you - probably around a decade later. it's really, really good.

Tribal Tech - Face First Ridiculous fusion. I've listened to their self-titled a couple of times as well as X, but this one is better than both. One of my favourite guitarists with one of my favourite bassists. Of course the rest of the band is brilliant as well.
Salazh Trio - Circulations Recently re-joined bassist of Obscura, Jeroen Paul Thesseling, on fretless 7 string bass alongside keys and drums. Pretty cool! At first the 7 string with its low F# kind of threw me. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. But you know, it definitely adds something interesting to the sound. Pretty cool album!
Edit: After listening some more I'm definitely digging the super low register on the 7 string bass.
Kayhan Kalhor & Erdal Erzincan - Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi Another attempt to delve into some traditional non-western music out there. This is a Persian duo playing live on two stringed instruments. Quite beautiful actually! I will definitely be exploring this kind of music more.

Cold Chisel - Circus Animals Classic aus rock. You still hear many of these songs on the radio today (actually it sucks, so overplayed) but some of the best stuff are not the radio hits.
Opeth - Garden of Titans Latest live album with songs from later albums (not the last one unfortunately). I love Sorceress, the song, so cool. The DVD kinda sucked though, unless my copy is dodge.... any time the camera pans it goes a bit blurry, which is a lot of the time. Most obvious on shots of trhe crowd but happens when zooming in to guitar for solos too. Was looking forward to watching this so was disappointing.

Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life I've been playing a lot of bass guitar lately, really getting into the instrument. I love Pat Metheny, but the reason I listened to this was to hear one of Jaco Pastorius' earliest recordings. It's interesting to hear the bass panned left. A bit off-putting at first but it's kinda nice once you get used to it. Anyway, I really like this album. It breathes more than other Metheny releases I've heard. Just guitar, bass, and drums. Bob Moses gives a stellar example of dynamics and musicality behind the kit too.

Bunch of old vinyls on Saturday arvo.
Iron Maiden - Killers (weirdly picked at random the day before Martin Birch passed away)
Metallica - AWMH Helping Hands concert (first time playing this one in its entirety, cool version of Sandman)
The Angels - Dark Room (classic Aussie rock, little bit of filler saved by nostalgia)
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy (hadnt listened to this album properly in a long while, The Rain Song is so fucking special. The Ocean is a great closer)

I bought my wife (it's her bass but she never plays it) an Ampeg BA-108. They're around $200 and sound great. I'm sure there are plenty of competitive options around, that was just what was in my local store. Really I mostly just plug the bass into my interface and play through headphones, but it's nice to hook it up to the amp sometimes.

I've listened to the new The Killers album 4 times, so far I think it's good. still need a few more listens to soak it in. I think 'My Own Soul's Warning' is the best song on the new album.
