Joe Satriani - Shapeshifting my cd is yet to arrive from JB's. I ordered online to get a signed copy. I have listened to it once on youtube, 1980 stood out but not much else. I'll let it play through 7 times before I judge if it's better than What Happens Next which I liked. Why 7?

I've found that's usually the amount of times it takes for some songs to grow on ya. some songs just sound great straight away while others a growers.

Katatonia - City Burials
Good album
Elder - Omens
Some nice stuff on this album but I don't think they will ever top Lore.

History of hostility by Pantera. A nine track compilation but it's all killer, no filler.

I have been listening to the prog rock classics (based on this list) in reverse order. www.popmatters.com/25-best-progressive-rock-albums-2495470374.html?rebelltitem=5#rebelltitem5I started with King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic, and so far listened to; Yes - Fragile Pink Floyd - The Wall Rush - 2112 Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus Gentle Giant - Octopus Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts Next: Genesis - Foxtrot and Jethro Tull - A Passion Play Although I have listened to all of these albums before, it is still a great experience listening to them at different times, with different mindsets. I also listened to the the first 7 Black Sabbath albums in order. The first 5 are still unbelievable. I will continue with Dio era albums later on...

New Alestorm album is sweet. The singles are decent, but a bit too "Happy" for my taste (though very catchy and will be a blast live) but the deeper cuts like these are fantastic.

New turntable means pulling out all the old vinyls on the weekend.
I had a shit tonne of fun!
Some of these LPs I have not played or even seen for decades so it was a huge step back in time and brought back great memories.
I played a heap of old 45s too (does anyone here remember when the Metal community released "Stars" for world hunger like the BandAid song and We are the World singles?), and a lot of albums didn't get played in full.
Good albums got played in full:
Violent Femmes - Self Titled (this was Saturdays favourite, out with the acoustic!) AC/DC - Powerage Deep Purple - Perfect strangers Led Zeppelin - Coda Angels - Howling Hoodoo Gurus - Mars needs Guitars
Neighbours, prepare for next Saturday, its on again

Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel I get a feeling that Bartman is a fan of this. I liked 5 out of 11 songs, so not too bad!

Lamb of God - s/t
I don't know...I can't say it is bad. It is certainly good as in it delivers what I'd expect from Log's new album. I can't put my finger on what is missing(and it may not be Chris Adler, I must admit).

Couple of Chris Duarte albums (played by a mate, so not sure of titles, but a clear SRV influence, real good) Peter Criss - Solo album (returning to the old classics has been a lot of fun) Metallica - Hardwired (different track sequence with the vinyl)

Metallica - Hardwired (different track sequence with the vinyl) I never understood the importance of track sequence. I always play my cds at 'random'.

Metallica - Hardwired (different track sequence with the vinyl) I never understood the importance of track sequence. I always play my cds at 'random'. To kind of build a story or just to make the listening experience of an album as exciting as possible all the way through by playing with dynamics (for example not too many fast and loud songs in a row or the same with slower songs). I would say that movies work in a similar way. To find a balance and keep that balance throughout the album or the movie, by sometimes slowing down the tempo/stripping back the arrangement and sometimes speeding it up/making it fuller. It kind of is an art in itself I would say.

Yep, I think like LM - track sequence is part of the creative process of making the album to me.
Before CDs, having a strong second opener for the B-side was part of getting the listener back on board. (not so relevant with Hardwired as it is spread across two LPs, much like how the old Justice album was released back in the day).
I've just always enjoyed the experience from Track 1 to the end.
I can't get onboard with people who read the ending of the book to decide if they will read it either
