It IS! Look at your sentence. I've bolded the pertinent part. I have no problems with people wanted to hear a remixed version with the bass raised. What I have a problem with is the phrasing and ideas that it should have sounded like something else. Which you did. This is you saying that you know better than the artist. This is you saying that the choice the artist made (no matter HOW they arrived at that choice) is wrong. It's you saying that artist's work isn't exactly how it should be (which is how they wanted it to be). It's presumption that you know better. And I hate to break this to you, but you don't. The album sounds EXACTLY the way it SHOULD sound because that is the way the ARTIST wanted it to sound. That's the arrogance - to presume you know better on how someone should represent their art. When 3 people involved say that it was fucked with, it was fucked with. The only arrogance I see is yours.

The real question is, when they remaster TBA, will they fix the typo "You just stood there creaming" in the booklet. I know this has bugged James since the release. Never knew that; that's amazing.

Firstly don't believe everything you read. That interview with the producer was him totally not getting Lars' sense of humour and being pissy about it in the press. Secondly, it doesn't MATTER what he thinks or says. He is NOT the creator he simply does what the creator tells him to do. Whether he thinks he had an awesome mix or not is irrelevant because it's not his album, so his say in how the finished product should sound is precisely zero I can't work out whether you're being deliberately obtuse or you clear dislike for post 1991-Metallica is clouding your judgement. So again: the record sounds exactly like it should and exactly how the artist wanted it to sound. There is no "should have" sounded. It should have sounded exactly as it does.

Firstly don't believe everything you read. So everyone but Lars is lying?

There isn't anything to lie about. No one has ever claimed that the bass is there (although in reality it is it's just the same frequencies as the guitars).
The point I was making was that that interview where he bitches about the record stemmed from a joke that Lars made (paraphrase "what happened to the bass on ajfa"?) and reacted to that as though Lars was blaming him hence the shitty tone of the interview.

You can't say that about the pre-heavy guitars in One.
