So you know how a lot of music books are heavily...embellished shall we say, to make them more interesting? For this who have read it, do you think there was any of that in here? I mean, the band drank heavily those days, and some of these stories have been told hundreds of times. There's still more story to tell?

My book just arrived and it looks amazing! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on it! I've spent about an hour flicking through it and I already love it. The mix between the photos and the anecdotes/comments from the bands and crew really give it a sense of atmosphere. You feel like you're right there in 85/86 with them. I can't wait for the Puppets remaster to accompany this book! |

There are some pretty amazing revelations in this book.
It seems the James and Lars doing whatever the fuck they want with the bass and bass mix started earlier than Justice. With Cliff being upset he wasn't able to attend the mixing sessions outside of Leper Messiah. And Lars and James doing exactly what they did later on Justice, and just kept turning up their instruments to the objections of the mixer saying "what about the bass?!", "fuck it, he's not here".
Oh, and that whole thing where they recorded guitars for the middle section of Orion without telling Cliff. All those harmonies and stuff that we love, they were all supposed to be bass only. James replaced the bass harmonies with guitars, and Cliff found out when he heard the rough mixes back in the States.
James worshipped Cliff apparently, but still showed him a fair amount of disrespect with the above. Not so different to how they treated Jason after all.

They were all young selfish assholes earlier on, it's nothing new really. It's not like they became that way when Cliff died and stopped again when Jason left.

Haha that's awesome. Kirk animated...he tells the story so well and then the picture at the end is just perfect. Anyone notice earlier in the book Lars' handwritten letters to his German friend - he says how Kerry King has been talking shit about them to people/in the press but is cool as fuck when they see him. They have said that in recent times about him too, and Mustaine. What a little bitch Kerry King has been for 30 years - talking shit then smiling when he sees them. |
